Hi everyone,

I'm Hall Harris (go by Hall).
I'm Project Director and Managing Editor for the NET Bible.
My "real" job is Professor of NT Studies, Dallas Theological Seminary, Dallas, TX, where I've taught Greek, exegesis, and NT Studies for nearly 30 years. I also head the Faculty Technology Committee at DTS, which interfaces between faculty and the IT department.
I have pretty extensive computer experience and can read/write raw html (I set up the first official DTS website back around 1994).
I understand basic programming and DB concepts but don't write code.
I regularly use all the major Bible study software (Logos, BibleWorks, Accordance for Mac, Gramcord for Win) and teach master's and doctoral level courses in the use of them. I beta tested for Accordance back about 10 years ago.
My passion is (1) training seminary students in the use of biblical languages for ministry; (2) making the NET Bible the most widely used English translation on the planet by putting a billion copies (digital or print) in the hands of Christians everywhere within the next 10-15 years.
Contacting me:
Although I know how to use IM I don't do it often because I find it a significant annoyance to my work. Same for Skype: I have an account but I don't use it much. Best way to reach me is by email (email delected by austin(see below) which I check 3-4 times per day. Of course, when I'm in class or other meetings I often can't reply, but will always get back ASAP.

I look forward to working with you all to take the NET Bible to the next level!

(admin comment. Although Dr Harris has graciously posted his email, I would prefer that we not bother Hall with private email or PM but make your comments using the ticket system at the bottom of every page of the NeXt Bible titled " To report a problem/suggestion" (which is were Hall and others will formally track issues, enhancements etc.) or use the forum here to interact that way we all get the benefit of the dialog)

Hello!

I an John C. Blackburn. Please call me John - if there is more than one John - I have been called called Pastor or Brother John for a along time.

I'm a new discipler/trainer here - and I am grateful for the oppotunity to help. I am now 53. I was licensed at 18 and ordained at 19. Except for a couple of semesters during seminary and a few months between my last 2 churches, I have been the Pastor or the Assistant Pastor of a church ever since. I have a BA in history from the Universtiy of Southern Indiana and an M Div. from Grace Seminary (Winona Lake) I have been a bi-vocational Pastor for about 6 years. I am a Public Assistance Caseworker for the State of Indiana.

I live mostly in the paper world, but I'm beginning to catch up. My state job requires that i use the computer not only for data entry, but that I follow its logic in awarding assistance (mostly Food Stamps and Medicaid.) I have done my non-reading sermon work on the computer for about 8 years.

My passion is explaining the Bible in a way that can be understood and applied by the guy in the pew. I view myself as a middle man. I use the education and the resources that God has given me to cross the bridge of history, language, and culture to bring the lessons of God's Word into the lives of the congregation and and anyone else God gives me the opportunity to teach.

I spend an hour or 2 on the computer most evenings. I have almost no technical expertise.

I have been married to a beautiful little girl for over 26 years. We could not have children, but we have children in the Lord. She in on Social Security Disability and is my best friend and helper. I say that she is little because she is about 5' 1" and 102lbs, and i'm 5'7" 250.

If God lets me live long enough to retire and I have a brain left - i want to write an expostion of Proverbs.

John

  • Your current ministry
  • Your technical skills
  • what is your passion for the Lord
  • How much time do you have to do forum activities per week
  • Other items that you want to share

· Your current ministry
Ways I have served Jesus are varied and at times interesting. I have done websites for church buildings, run sound systems, done audio ministries (everything from cassette, cd's to mp3 to xml (podcasting) etc. While I like playing around with audio, I really don't care much for html (too much like programming).

But my passion and uttermost desire is evangelism. I use the same method Jesus did, Law to the proud, Grace to the broken.

· Your technical skills

Varied. I am a general all-around computer Geek. While I have programmed in the past, I no longer care much about programming nor keep up with it. (Read as "no interest"). I have been a Alpha / Beta tester for various Operating Systems, software packages, Game software, BBS packages etc. I pretty much only do MS testing now, but even that is limited since formatting and reinstalling an OS gets old after awhile. (I dislike dual-booting). I have been doing this since the mid eighties. I even was paid by US West once for alpha / beta work for about a year. I pretty much have always built my own computers.

· What is your passion for the Lord

Seeing Souls saved for the Kingdom.

· How much time do you have to do forum activities per week

Currently, too much. I am at the moment unemployed and looking for a regular job. I usually do most of my theological work at Chuck Missler's "Berean Online Fellowship". Mostly because everyone there is committed to deep study of God's Word. I haven't been here long enough to really understand where the "Christians" leave off and the "Pagans" start in. Once I do, I'll be kicking in my "passion". For the moment I'll just be prodding around carefully.

· Other items that you want to share

Please forgive me ahead of time for my desire to see souls saved. I cannot stand the thought I another person going to Hell without someone bringing them to at least acknowledge that they will be accountable to God one way or another for their lives. I prefer to see them accountable to Jesus as their Savior versus seeing them stand before a Holy, Righteous and Just Judge who will condemn them to Gehenna for all eternity. I stand pretty strongly against "friendship" evangelism since statistics show 85% of self proclaimed "Christians" will back slide into their old self-serving lifestyle.

This of course just means they never "slid forward" in the first place, and they have become "inoculated Christians", which are the most difficult of people to reach since they feel they didn't get what they "deserved" from the church building. (Note that I use church building in opposition to "Church" since the "Church" are those who are abiding in Christ).

So overall, I hope to contribute as much as I can here, when I can, in service of the Lord. It is my earnest desire that if I EVER offend anyone, that you let me know so I can ask forgiveness! I never, ever, ever want to cause any Brother or Sister to stumble, or be upset on account of something I inadvertently say or do! Please let me know if I ever offend!

You will note I refuse to use Titles or Pseudonyms. I see no place for them while in servant hood to our King. I am pleased to give anything and everything to our King. I serve, He directs. I frequently stumble and fall. Christians have been accused of using Jesus as a crutch. I am quick to correct this by insisting that "No, Jesus is carrying me in His Stretcher, I am unable to even pretend to use a crutch! It is His Ability, I get no credit except for trusting in Him! Jesus does it all for me, and I love Him for it! "

I think in Perl. I've used Perl for several years, and it is my first choice when writing tools. PHP is very similar to perl, and I use it for web interfaces. I have dabbled with vb.net, vbscript, and java, and generally don't like them. I use postgresql whenever I can, but am starting to learn mysql a bit.

I run windows at home, mainly because of photoshop, bibleworks, logos, and retrospect (my backup software), though I've been a linux admin for several years at work.

I'm a Vim man on both linux and windows.

I assume this means development activities. Probably about four to eight hours. I'm really trying to get away from some of the moderator activities in the forums and move into the programming activities for the NET bible and TTP.

By day I work at Nortel doing system and software administration and support as well as a lot of programming. I get to travel a bit, which I enjoy. I've been married over six years to my best friend and very attractive wife, Joy. Our children are our two hateful little cocker spaniels, Baya and Perl (I told you I like Perl). We live in North Carolina.

I'm usually available via yahoo im as pingpongjedi. I check my email (pingpongjedi@yahoo.com) frequently, and am also available by cell (336-592-1448). I have free incoming calls, so don't hesistate to call if you need :)

I echo Hall's comment about NET bible distribution. I have encouraged my local TTP class to consider the NET bible, and one student has already ordered one. My wife and I have been using it for a few weeks now. That's what makes being a part of this project so exciting as the NET Bible moves to a db-driven product.

Don't get your hopes up young man you can't leave till we get more volunteers ;) You need to multi-task like me, you'll either get used to it or have a phychotic episode. luv ya brother! Even when you call me while I'm eating

Now to answer some of da's stuff...

I'm Jenn, mrs D, and mom. I have 3 wonderful (most of the times) boys, 11, 9, and 4. I have 1 wonderful husband (couldn't handle more than 1 that's for sure) ;)

Currently I'm admin here on the forum, contributing author for some of the articles located at http://www.theopedia.com , I'm a private music instructor, I write christian children's music and musicals, I write Christian music for anyone who needs something, I'm a Substitute pre-school teacher, a member of the PTA, before we moved here to Texas I was the Children's Music Director and Asst Children's Sunday School Director and the director of Children's Special programming at my previous church, I also follow da around and fix his typos...I'm sure I missed something in there somewhere but that'll do for now. The reason I listed all of that here under ministry is because it is my prayer that my life will be my ministry :)

Technically speaking I can type, follow directions, organize, proof read, sort, compile, whatever needs to be done. I received a degree in computer before Windows 3.11 and haven't updating my skills beyond the basics.

My passion is anything he would have me do. :D

Weekly time? When am I NOT here!

I think I covered most of the "other" above. I was active duty air force for a number of years and got out to be a mom. Couldn't be heading back to Saudi with the little ones at home now could I? Been a stay at home mom ever since. (the youngest hits Kindergarten next year...YIPPEEEEE) Trust me disarming a bomb and nuclear weapons is a whole lot easier with less stress then being a mom. 8)

Hi! I am Melissa Allgood.

My first and foremost ministry is my family! Aside of that my mother and sister and I started a "Prayer Bear Ministry". This involves my mom crochting a 4 inch bear and we attached a ribbon and Bible verse. These are them given to people in need. So far we have given them to cancer patients, premie babies, widows and widower. The purpose of the Prayer Bear is just a reminder to the receiver that someone is praying for them. We also make and give away small quilts to premie's and nursing home patients. We have just come out with a "Pocket Prayer Bear" that you can fit into you pocket and take a prayer with you wherever you go.
HERE is a picture of one of our Prayer Bears. I'll try to get one up of the pocket bear as soon as I can.
If that link doesn't work click HERE

My technical skills are pretty slim when it comes to computer programing. I currently work in the regulatory department for Sherwin Williams and I have the responsiblilty to approve labels (the labels you see on the can when you but paint). I also work with our IT group to develop systems that store data and are easier to use. I am kinda like the liasion between the users and IT.

My passion for the Lord is all the Lord. He consumes me.

I have about a couple hours to send on forum activities. This may vary depending on the week (may be more hours depending on the task master sister) :)

I have a husband and three children (two of my own and on step daughter) ages 13, 15, 17. I also a lap dog name Chica (a min pin) and she is my shadow. I love gaming, crotching, painting, and reading.

Thats about all. Oh don't forget:

ASLAN'S ON THE MOVE!!!

Hello all, I'm Mitch Guthrie. Currently I reside in Washington state in a small town right between Seattle and Portland.

Currently I work for a multinational corporation as a Systems Administrator and teach bible classes at my church. I preach (not often), teach, lead worship, and participate/lead drama at my local church.

My technical skills revolve around Open Source software with emphasis on network/system administration and some programming. Technologies I use are Linux, PHP, Perl, Python, Postfix, Samba, Apache, etc etc... I'm not formally trained but have worked my way up through the years and actually taught as a professor as part of a network degree for a community college in my area for 3 years. I really enjoy using OSS to solve problems.

I am currently in a process of transition as I have been brought on board by bible.org as the Applications Director to help carry bible.org into the next generation of online ministry. Over the next short while I will be moving my family (wife and son) across the country to a foreign land (texas) to serve bible.org in it's mission to reach with world for Christ. We have no family or friends in that area so it will be a new chapter for us and it's very exciting. Stressful too.

Currently I don't spend very much time on bible.org's forums as I have other responsibilities to take care of for them but over time I hope to be more available and provide more dialog/feedback.

All-in-all I'm looking forward to what is going to happen in the next year and I'm excited to work with all y'all (I'm working on my accent...).

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

-MG

Hi, I'm Ron McKenzie

* Your current ministry
I am active in my local Episcopal parish in the Men's Ministry, serve as a Chalice Minister, Lector, Lay Eucharistic Visitor, am a Sacristan, and handle PowerPoint verheads two sundays a month.

* Your technical skills
I am an occasional programmer/analyst, working primarily in BBx and Providex --two dialects of Business BASIC (not, it's not GW Basic nor VB); I have done some HTML coding, am learning D/XHTML and CSS, want to learn more about Perl and PHP. I did 2nd level help desk support for 6 years and maintained the interfaces between most of the 3rd party systems and the main Unix system (Sun Solaris). Avid user of PDA and PPC devices. Getting ready to add podcasts of sermons on our parish website.

* what is your passion for the Lord
To know Him better, study Him diligently, walk more closely with Him, and reflect and share His LIght and Love with all I encounter.

* How much time do you have to do forum activities per week
As needed, I tend to check the fora (lurking mostly) on a nightly basis for a wee bit of time. When I have a project (testing to do, etc), I spend more time, doing the work needed and communicating with others involved.

* Other items that you want to share
Delighted to be here.

Blessings!
