Titus 2:3-5
3 Older women likewise are to exhibit behavior fitting for those who are holy, not slandering, not slaves to excessive drinking, but teaching what is good. 4 In this way they will train the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, fulfilling their duties at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the message of God may not be discredited. Welcome to the Women's Discussion Room.

Here is the place that we women can come to share our joys and sorrows, triumphs and failures, and the knowledge we have gained as we walk with the Lord. It is also the place where we safely ask questions concerning anything that pertains to our walk so that we may continue to grow.

It is my prayer that those of us who are older (at least in our faith) will be able to assist those of us who are a little younger and share our experiences. Although it is good to learn by making our own mistakes sometimes it is better to learn from someone who has "been there, done that".

With Bible.org's launch of it's new Women's Ministry Super Category I see an increase in the number of Women here at our forums. Please continue to keep this forum and Bible.org in your prayers as we reach the world for Christ.

If you are not already a member of our Women's Forums you will not be able to access the private area for more personal women's discussion. To participate in these forums you will need to join the "Women's Discussion Group" via your User Control Panel, simply select the group and click submit.

Please feel free to start a thread or join in the discussions that are already in place. If you have any suggestions, comments, or problems please do not hesitate to let me know. Feel free to either send me a pm or an e-mail. If you send an e-mail just put "Women's Forum" in the subject line this will prevent it from going to my bulk mail folder!

You may also contact our Women's Ministry Moderator "dcljoy" if you need any assistance.

Any gentlemen while we appreciate the fact that you want to help when reading items in this public area of the garden we would like to request that you please stay on the path and out of the flowers and vegetables. If you have something to add that you think would be beneficial please send a note to Dinah (dcljoy) and she'll think about it. Thanks for your understanding.

You know that bible game on the main forum? What if we try it with women only? I suggest we put either a brief description, or couple of verses, for our women, so that we all learn a little as we go. Also, I suggest we do not feel we have to move on to another letter if there is another lady for the letter currently on show.
So, how about

ANNA
prophetess; at the temple when Joseph and Mary came to present the infant Jesus to the priests.

Luke 2:36-38 (NIV
There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.

(Any other A's before we move to the B's?)

Abishag was a beautiful young woman of Shunem. She was chosen to minister to David in his old age, to attempt to nurse him to health and to keep him warm (1 Kings 1:3-4, 15). She appears to have become David's closest attendant.

I must confess that I couldn't think of anymore 'A's so I cheated and looked in the concordance. Here is a woman who was an interesting study and so, in honor of Mother's Day, I give you....

ATHALIAH

Her son was King Ahaziah from the house of Ahab. She was the daughter of Omri. It said that she was her son's "counselor to do wickedly".

2 Kgs. 11:1-16 tells how she sought to have all the rest of the royal offspring murdered after the death of her son. But, Joash, one of King Ahaziah's sons (her Grandson!!) was secreted away by the dead King's sister and kept for 6 years in a chamber of "the house of the LORD".

ATHALIAH ruled for those 6 years and promoted the worship of Baal.

An interal revolt against her and her wickedness led to the 'outing' of Joash and the proclamation of him as King, and she was whisked away and killed by order of the Priest Jehoida.[/u][/b]

AZUBAH. Means "forsaken" in Hebrew.

Mother of Jehoshaphat and daughter of Shilhi...in my understanding, the mentions of mothers were indications of whether they were good or bad in their children's lives...Considering that Jehoshaphat walked in all the ways of the Lord, that must mean she was a good mom. :p

I found her in 1 Kings 22:41-43

Is it time to start the 'B's'?

Dr. Allen Ross mentioned something very interesting about her that cast a little redemptive light on Bathsheba. Concerning her bathing on the roof, he said that she was purifying herself privately. The King was to have been gone "out to battle", ie...not in his house. That the King's house was high above all others in the city and had a view that looked down onto others' houses. His point was that she was not being temptive or immodest. And that the verb "took her" can refer to an action against the will of another or by force or command. David was a much beloved, powerful, charasmatic (sp) KING and though a man after God's own heart, he was a man of ancient times. They both suffered terribly, though in different ways, from that one night of sin, sex and seduction.

I'd like to hear others' insights and thoughts about this woman. She could take several pages, at least.

Bathsheba - interesting lady! Mother of Solomon - ancestor of Joseph, "adoptive Dad" of our Lord - and the one via whom Jesus had legal lineage as King of the Jews.

Is there a "C" - I can't find her if there is - so maybe someone will lead us to one of the "D" ladies ....

DINAH...that was a tragic story. I read where she was among the ones who went to Egypt during the time of Joseph. I hope she found a nice Jewish boy!

Genesis 34: 1-4 (NIV)
Now Dinah, the daughter Leah had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the women of the land. When Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, the ruler of that area, saw her, he took her and raped her. His heart was drawn to Dinah daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl and spoke tenderly to her. And Shechem said to his father Hamor, "Get me this girl as my wife."

I read a novel about Dinah a couple of years ago now - "The Red Tent". Very nuch a novel and from a Jewish feminist point of view but it did raise a valid point. The biblical story proceeds to tell us what happened from the point of view of all the men - her father, brothers, the men of Shechem's village - but does not deal with how Dinah managed to get on with her life and to cope with all those brothers. The novel attempts to fill in the spaces and a lot of the cultural stuff is really interesting.

in a commentary on Genesis I was reading, the writer pointed out how God forms men ..... and used the difference in Jacob himself, and then Jacob's sons from the beginning of the story to when they are confronted by Joseph in Egypt. It makes interesting reading.

blessings

sorry Jatfla

I was thinking about Avid's post ....

Dinah's father was of course, Jacob .... and it is an interesting story to read in Genesis how God changed him from when we first read about how Jacob deceived both his brother Esau and then Isaac his Father .... until the last time we see Jacob in the end of Genesis.

Dinah's brothers are the 12 sons of Jacob .... again, they are a nasty lot ... planning to murder their younger brother and finally selling him into slavery ... then this story of murder .... there is no mention in the story of their concern for Dinah herself ... what would have been best for her ... rather their honor had been offended and blood must flow! .... but then .... how merciful is God .... read the story of when they had to go into Egypt to buy grain ... and how they meet Joseph again (but do not know him) ... their care for their father and their youngest brother ... it is amazing.

Of course Joseph himself sounds like a conceited young man and probably drove his brothers mad ... but what God made of him makes exciting reading. ... his answer to his brothers when their father died and they once more became afraid of vengeance is a classic .... and a brilliant explanation of how God works in our lives ...

"Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives" (Gen.50:15-21 NIV)

joy

Dinah
