I feel compelled to start a ministry for men in my church but I don't know how to go about it and maintain it. We had one program several years ago (2 pastors ago), called Men of Integrity, we met on Saturday and we discussed topics pertinent to men. This fizzled and died. Then several years later we had a men's breakfast on Saturday once a month and that fizzled and died.

My problem: I do not like sports and the only sport I play is golf. My hobbies and things I like are academic and literary and I doubt men will come together for those things.

How do I try again to start a ministry for men?

men should want to come no matter but many are worn from life -- i'm sure there are plenty of ready-made series out there -- of course, simply going verse by verse through a Book of the Bible energizes men -- so if the Sunday sermon is generally topical, try this avenue

1 thought is to have a women's meeting @ the same time -- wives & girlfriends will then drag their guys along -- a kid offering @ the same time would be optimal but this requires additional resources

I would reccomend you read and consider the points made by David Murrow in "Why Men Hate Going to Church" You can get it at CBD or Amazon.

I would reccomend you pray about this ministry, Talk to your pastor about it and research it thoroughly. I would also reccomend you ask God for a partner in ministry who will help you to set this up and lead it. This way you won't become overwhelmed by the ministry and can take breaks from it without it suffering or you getting burned out. Make sure you both set up what is expected before starting the ministry.

A good suggestion would be for you to look into the Courageous Campaign/Study for a good starter idea. Perhaps you can have a movie event at, or near, your church and then invite men to a study and to take The Resolution. BTW this is a great movie and everyone should see it.

This is just one suggestion and there are many others out there with great ideas for you to consider.

You might want to look in to Iron Sharpens Iron.
