Wanted to see whhat kind of a Theologian John F. Walvoord. I could google him but that always leads to hours of sorting through junk. I know he was a major figure at Dallas Seminary but that is not exactly a definitive endorsement. No bashing! I do not care for rants of hatred. I was wanting to simply know if he is a good, honest theologian.

He is an unabashed Pre-Trib/Pre-Mill Dispensationalist. He has written a number of books that I have found helpful over the years, even though I no longer espouse a specifically dispensationalist appraisal of history and the future. I think he can still be read with great benefit by those who do not espouse his theological orientation. He is solidly evangelical and certainly knows his Bible and the original languages. Again, my only complaint is the Dispensationalist orientation colors all of his work, but not so much to invalidate it (IMO...though others of the Dispensationalist bent will likely appreciate even more Walvoord's numerous contributions to that theological camp). HERE is a link to a site dedicated to his numerous contributions to the Church and it offers a great little bio on Dr. Walvoord.

I am still a pre-trib premillenialist - and I liked his book concerning questions about the rapture. I found his commentaries helpful, but less satisfying. I liked the work on Daniiel better than his work on Revelation. His short commentary on Matthew was unsatisfying.

Better commentaries by dispensationalist authoris would be Turner on Matthew in the BECNT (excellent for anyone), Miller in the NAC on Daniel, and Thomas on Revelation in the defunct wycliffe set. Keener in the NIVAC is sometimes fair to dispensationalists. (See also studies her at bible.org)

One of my former professors, Richard Mayhue has nice commentary on Thessalonians published by Christian Focus. Robert Thomas has also done excellent work on these epistles in the EBC and REBC.
