Using http://net.bible.org/dictionary.php?wor ... ospel%20of as an example:

"John 20:31" (second paragraph of article from EBD: linked to http://net.bible.org/verse.php?book=Joh ... 0&verse=31 (correct when book of the Bible named)
"1:1-5" (third paragraph, same article): linked to http://net.bible.org/passage.php?passage=+1:1-5 (incorrect when book of the Bible not named)
"verse 6" (same) : linked to http://net.bible.org/verse.php?book=Gen ... =1&verse=6 (incorrect when book of the Bible not named)

this is an open trouble ticket #44
it was reported perhaps by you?
see below as i quote the ticket and my reply for the forum readers
Quote:
Ticket submitted by deofmovestofca from page http://net.bible.org/dictionary.php?wor ... ospel%20of

Maybe it's just my system and/or (more likely) browser (Mozilla/5.0 [Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.15] Gecko/20080623 Firefox/2.0.0.15 - Build ID: 2008062306), but whenever I hover over one of the verse links with the cursor, the popup displays the verse from Genesis rather than the Gospel of John.

and responded to by myself

deofmovestofca its not your browser.. the problem is that this is automatic code that runs on a page and the links are not in the doc itself..
so as a result it doesnt know that 1:2 is john as it doesnt remember context as the human does.. it just assumes it is book 1 which is genesis..
it would be better if we detected the fact that a reference has no book name and not do anything rather than show a link.. i will ask our developer to look at it…

brian, I think marc is using your code here.. I think we should detect the fact of no book ref given and not assume it is book 1

marc, i thought we now give the reference on the popup?? http://www.bible.org/page.php?page_id=5816 this looks like old code?
If you are not the same person that reported it on the nextbible trouble link
I appreciate your reporting here but to get the problem into the system u need to click on the bottom of the page and fill in your email address and report the problem and suggestion. that way it gets into the system and you will be notified as we track it progress and work off the problem
if you are the same person that reported it on the ticket link u should have got an automatic response from the ticket reporting system so u can track our progress on the ticket.. at a minimum we will probably make it so it shows the reference it is using so if u are looking at john and it brings up genesis then u know the sw made a mistake...

thanks for your use and support of the free bible study nextbible toolset

I'm pretty new to this forum, so if there's a better place to post these, LMK.

I'm using eSword 9.5.1 semi=portably , if that makes a difference (I hate where Win7 insists on putting things).
I have trouble with the Net Bible mouseover links in the commentaries box, too. Most links are correct, but now and then I run across ones that don't make sense. What I found tonight:

John 3:3
9 sn What does Jesus' statement about not being able to see the kingdom of God mean within the framework of John's Gospel? John uses the word kingdom (βασιλεία, basileia) only 5 times (Deu_3:3; Deu_3:5; Deu_18:36 [3x])...

I think Deu should be Joh. Just above it, this one had correct links:
http://net.bible.org/verse.php?search=John%203:3&book=john&chapter=3&verse=3 gets the notes right.. but as explained below.. it is code that runs seperate from the page and it doesnt remember context..daustin admin
8 tn The word ἄνωθεν (anōthen) has a double meaning, either "again" (in which case it is synonymous with παλίν [palin]) or "from above" (BDAG 92 s.v. ἄνωθεν). This is a favorite technique of the author of the Fourth Gospel, and it is lost in almost all translations at this point. John uses the word 5 times, in Joh_3:3; Joh_3:7; Joh_3:31; Joh_19:11 and Joh_19:23. In the latter 3 cases the context makes clear that it means "from above." Here (Joh_3:3; Joh_3:7) it ...

Interesting. I checked the NET Notes for John 3:3 in The Word (an alternative to e-Sword) and the problem doesn't occur there. Instead, the chapter and verse references appear without a book reference and without any link.

BflyLady, it seems that daustin did not understand that you were referencing Esword. I will look into this and get back with you. Thanks for the report! :)

BflyLady reported a problem with the latest version of esword in John 3:3
I looked at my esword and the note is in error as Bflylady reports. The problem is I dont have anyone doing maintenance on this module. Is their anyone here willing to take on that task. If so send me an email.
