Forum rules

To All Forum Members:

Welcome to the Christianity and Science section of our Forums. If you choose to participate in this area of the site there are a few things that we would like you to be aware of. . .

Generally speaking, before you begin a new thread on any subject, please review the threads that are currently available. If you do not see your requested topic please feel free to begin a new thread. If you see a topic that you would like to discuss and the thread has been locked, please contact a moderator of this forum to request that the thread be reopened.

The following is a list of things that will not be tolerated and will cause your post to be deleted immediately.
    1) Accusations to or about another member(s) of being "ignorant", "unlearned", "uneducated", or anything similar to that
    2) Accusations to or about another member(s) of being "unchristian", or "not a christian" etc, because they do not share a posted opinion

Concerning the age of the earth. . .

Be aware that when participating in discussions concerning the age of the earth everyone's opinion is just that, their opinion. The scriptures tell us that God is the Creator. The "how" and the "process" and the "how long" is speculation by EVERYONE. Those who hold to a literal 6 day creation and those who do not are both brothers and sisters in Christ and need to be treated as such.

Although this forum will be watched for content (do the topics/discussions belong here?) they will be more moderated for conduct. Please refrain from becoming dogmatic in any posts, please remember that our first rule in our Code of Conduct states that "Kindness and respect is required of ALL who choose to use these forums"

Okay, so provide me with exact detail as to your view of God’s involvement in creation? What did He have to do with creating the universe and living things? And again, why should anyone believe that God holds everything together? Don’t natural laws hold everything together? How exactly is He involved in holding everything together?

<snip>

I don't think anyone knows exact details of God's involvement in creation. He hasn't revealed those details to us.
People who take the first chapters of Genesis literally have difficulty with determining the exact details. Did God form man from dust, then form the animals from dust after man was there as we read in Genesis 2? Or did God create man after the animals as in Genesis 1? We don't know.
How much of the passages are we to take literally?
We can read 2 Samuel 22, the story of David's rescue from Saul, and it speaks of God riding on cherubs to earth, breathing smoking and shooting arrows at David's enemies. We know that is not what really happened, because we have the actual events recorded in the books of history. There is no book of history that records the actual events of creation, other than nature (the fossil record, scenes we can record with space telescopes, etc), so we don't know how much of the first chapters of Genesis to take literally.

Genesis 2 does not contradict Genesis 1, it is infact an expansion of the sixth day of Creation. Unfortunately problems can be caused in translation to english, but I can assure you it in no way contradicts Genesis 1.

It mentions man but it does not go, then God created animals, it actually talks of them as if they are already in existence.

As for other events in the Bible well it all depends on what you want to believe. There are many ancient manuscripts to compare and draw information from which show a consistency that is to be quite honest, amazing. Our view on history however is quite often far more likely to use books that have far fewer in existence. Julius Caesars Gallic Wars for example is a book that has only 10 copies (not the original) and the earliest of those was written 1000 years after it was first written.
Historically the Bible stand up very well indeed and the accuracy of its text is remarkable and further shows the inspiration of God.

Gentlemen please - this thread is not for the discussion of evolution or really for discussion at all - UNTIL AFTER and only IF you attend the event mentioned in the OP. So for now I am locking this thread. Take all discussions to the appropriate forums. Thanks
