I did not feel quite ready to dive into the 100 miles of the book itself, (it has 1072 pages!) but the Christian Classic written by Fyodor Dostoevsky, (1821-1881), was made into a movie! amazing insights came when my husband and I enjoyed the movie. At first, hard to get into it, we wondered if it was going to get out of the cycles of sin patterns and relationships of the characters, but at last, the questions of man and God were hit firmly. One impact was the time after the atheist brother "woke up to reality" realizing there was a God, because he realized it was WRONG for his illegitimate brother to have murdered their father. He knew if there were no God then there were no reason to morals, but after the other brother committed the unthinkable, he had a life changing event and realized how wrong it was and then the illegitimate brother got angry and realized he had followed his brothers teaching and was condemned because he followed human reasoning and not a truth. wow, amazing moment on the screen.

excerpt from Christian Classics Ethereal Library:
The Brothers Karamazov is considered a supreme achievement in literature. Published near the end of the 19th century, it is one of the great works of world-renowned author Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The Brothers Karamazov tackles some of the most existential and important themes known to humankind--the existence of God, morality, free will, reason, doubt, and faith--just to name a few. Readers around the globe have found their lives transformed by this layered and complex book. A deeply spiritual work, The Brothers Karamazov is a work that every person should read.

I took your challenge but in the end I returned the book to the library...too long...discouraging.

I listened to it - audio book - dozed through some bits, but overall enjoyed it. I suspect some translations are not as good as others.
