OK, they didn't have classes when they had the drill today. It was teacher in-service day...
I think that was better...

If you know anyone who is a civil engineer has experience, and would like to work in Missouri or Louisiana, an organization called Relief Spark is looking for help.
It is on their site on facebook.

The Saga of Ethan is never-ending.

Today he was caught skipping his 8th period class AND being outside of the building without permission. At the point when it was caught there was barely a half an hour of the day left and the assistant principal didn't have time to get to the bottom of it before the buses were to leave. Well I DID get to the bottom of it. And it's a LONG story. Suffice it to say there is some bullying going on and Ethan is the victim. What he did was wrong. The whole skipping class and leaving the building was VERY wrong. And for that he will be receiving some pretty harsh consequences. But tomorrow at the meeting the assistant principal will be having with him, I WILL be present AND the bullying issue will be addressed. We will also be requesting that Ethan has a weekly meeting with either the assistant principal or a guidance counselor to help him learn to control his often reactive emotions (which we all know just feed into a bully's ego) and to offer him assistance in getting through this period of time. I CAN'T be there all the time, nor should I have to be, so he needs to learn to deal with and ward off the bullies and he needs to know that there are adults that are available to help him through - IF he is willing to open up be HONEST with all involved.

Tomorrow is a going to be ANOTHER long day.

Blessings,

Garsy

Aw man Garsy, that stinks that Ethan is having to deal with that. I HATE BULLIES. Yes, I do.

I hope your meeting goes well and SOMETHING GETS DONE. I really hate bullies.

Punishment for Ethan - At this moment, because of his leaving the school yesterday and then lying about it - He has an after school detention next Tuesday and weekly meetings with a school counselor or the assistant principal to work through some issues he's having with the bullies. He may also have to miss the next "mutual respect party." Those are whole school parties with music and food and games that are held once a quarter for kids that have no disciplinary referrals during the previous quarter. I might say that this needs to be missed regardless of what the school says.

It's been an exhausting morning.

Blessings,

Garsy

Hello, new to this thread.

I have two children in school, son in grade 12, a son in his first year of university. I also have an adult daughter living at home, and running her own photography business.

My two oldest have always done well in school, my youngest not so much. He brought his first report card home yesterday, and I was very pleased with his 3 Bs, 1 A and 1 incomplete, which he should be able to turn into an A. That is the best report card he has had in many years.

Bullying is such a tough thing to deal with. All my children were bullied to one degree or another.

Monday I was home all day. Laundry and other household stuff done.
Tuesday I had Zoe into school by 8 AM for color guard practice and Ethan to the doctor by 8:30. Ethan back to school by 10:15 and me to the elementary by 10:30 for my regular volunteer time. Then the call from Ethan's school at 4:30 about his little escapades.
Wednesday - Meeting at the middle school, then a run to the library and a much needed stop at Starbucks.
Today - Zoe into school by 7:45 this morning for instrument practice and then regular choir practice for the upcoming elementary choir concert. She's playing the handbells AND the xylophone. I'm obviously home now - TRYING to finish the laundry up and hopefully I'll get the brush pile burned too.

Tomorrow - Both hubby and I will be at school all day. Regular shift in the art room for me and he'll be helping in the PE department with rollerskating again. And Zoe has to be there by 8 AM again for another instrument practice.

It's been a LONG week.

Blessings,

Garsy

JD had one kid (high school) pick on him but he sort of turned it around onto the bully. When the bully said something bad to JD, he would turn it around somehow and then the other kids would laugh at the bully and it worked for a while. Then the kid started on him again. JD told him that if didn't leave him alone, he would paint the kid's almost new black and white Camaro that was in the parking lot bright pink. JD wouldn't really do that but the bully has left JD alone since then.
I don't think that JD should have said that but I guess the bully figured out that he could lose more than he gained by picking on JD. This had gone on from school last year and JD ws tired of it.

Happy thanksgiving folks!

Ethan is only 12. He's still learning to navigate in a world of bullies. He's very bright, but he's not like the typical popular kid in his school and to boot he is a bit overweight. He doesn't have the best of everything either. And to boot he has asthma and allergies and sometimes his meds cause behavior issues. And all of this is just fodder for a bully.

And to boot he is extremely compassionate and kind hearted.

And I'm extremely thankful for him - and pray EVERY day that he survives middle school with his sanity intact!

Blessings,

Garsy

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, even though it's a little late.
Praying that your son makes it through all of the bully stuff with his sanity.
Middle school must be the hardest.

Has anyone noticed that we are having sort of strange weather? It's raining in Michigan and snowing in Mississippi!!

Wow, kind of quiet around here huh ? Not much going around here . Tim just dropped Physics and will be in Consumers mgmt in Jan. He just wasn't grasping it even with help. Becky is doing well, but she really has no hard classes this year. She wanted to enjoy her senior year :) life is going well for our family. Hubby went for a physical and the Dr is concerned with the results from his blood work. He has an elevated billirubin(1.7) He's been working out and dieting to get some weight off and doing really well and got smacked by these results. It may or may not be anything. Just concerned. Thanks

Hey! Yea, it's quiet. But that's okay. Right about now quiet is good!

We're wet here. Very wet. WE had a snow last week, and then rain and then ice, and then more rain and then between yesterday and today it's mostly melted but it's raining again. And we are supposed to get more rain and snow all week! Depressing really.

I am throughly enjoying this documentary I'm watching about Bob Ross! Of course it's pledge week for PBS so I'm not surprised they are showing these sorts of things!

The kids are doing okay at school. It seems Ethan's issues with the bullies have subsided, and he has found a new passion for stopping bullying in his school! I don't know where that's going to take him or what he wants to do yet, but this is something near and dear to his heart!

Ty turns 18 tomorrow. TOMORROW! Blows me away! I can't believe it! He is kinda worried about next semester, as he has two pretty tough classes (trig. and Genetics) And he NEEDS to pass them with at least a B average in order to keep his honors status for graduation. I'm in the process of working on a tutoring option for him for at least the Trig class! There is a mom that I see often that has a son Ty's age that struggles with English and he has two english courses next semester BUT he excels in maths. And Ty is the opposite. So we might have them exchanging tutoring just to get them through their final semester!

The girls -- Both of them are doing just fine! Zoe's midterm report showed all A's and B's and Aryn has managed to bring up all her grades this quarter. The next two weeks are EXTREMELY busy! Zoe has to be to school early Tuesday through Friday mornings all week this week and then again next week in preparation for their big color guard and choir program on the 16th. Ethan has a Choir concert this Wednesday. AND both Ethan and Zoe are volunteering at a lighting display at a local church. They are serving hot chocolate and cookies to those parked in their cars watching the display. Plus Zoe starts basketball practice on Tuesday nights! Just a bit crazy! But not nearly as crazy as January gets!

Blessings,

Garsy

We are having weird weather, too, at least for December. It isn't supposed to snow all week but it's going to rain.
Pray for a couple of people in our town. One of the bus drivers fell off of a ladder when she was cleaning her gutter and broke her hip by landing on her picnic table.
A week or so ago, a pastor that does the plays at the school was putting up Christmas lights and fell, breaking his arm and jaw. He might have to have surgery on his arm because he has injured tendons. Of course, the show must go on. He is having tryouts for the Spring play next week. That is just the kind of person he is when he has committed to do a job.
Pray for both of them, OK?
And be careful if you are using a ladder!

JD was applying to a tech college. He called them and they told him that they had lost his application, transcripts and ACT scores. He told them that he had just lost interest in their college! :D

Hi, Everyone!!!
We are having some very strange weather for a Michigan December. There is no snow on the ground and it rained again last night. There were a few flurries later.

Last week, ds went to an assembly at the high school. He said that his friend almost passed out. They were showing a movie on what happens when people drink and drive. They didn't us actors but the real photos of the accidents. He said it literally made him sick so he walked his friend to the office. Ds told the principal how bad the movie was and the principal told him that he had been good to ds and that ds shouldn't put down his assemblies. I get the point that there needs to be a way to keep kids from drinking and driving, it just doesn't have to be that gory. Ds told me one of the photos and it's too gory to repeat.
Ds only goes half days to that high school so that he can get a ride to the tech center in the afternoon. He doesn't have any classes in that high school. The principal who was "good" to him wouldn't take our home school credits and wanted him to take 9th grade English this year. (Last year he was in 11th grade classes at this school.) He is doing K!2 so that he can graduate from a different school but doesn't get to graduate with his friends.
