I just got finished reading this biography from the Washington Post:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/whitehouse/chuck-colson-nixons-dirty-tricks-man-dies-at-80/2012/04/21/gIQAaoOHYT_story_1.html

His misdeeds are laid out in gory detail, not the least of which was conducting an apparent affair with his coworker, who became his 2nd wife after his divorce.

Quoting from the link:

Missions that Mr. Colson undertook for the president ranged from leaking damaging and untrue rumors about Federal Reserve Chairman Arthur Burns to tracking down a photograph of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) dancing with a starlet in Paris.

Most fatefully of all, he eagerly agreed to Nixon’s order to blacken the reputation of former Pentagon official Ellsberg, who was suspected of the Pentagon Papers leak.

Reading about these things made me very, very angry, because Senator Kennedy and Mr. Ellsworth are people I respect very much.

But by the time I knew about him, this was what was happening instead:

In addition to befriending prisoners and converting them to Christianity, Mr. Colson established a rehabilitation program that aimed to cut the recidivism rate. He publicly opposed the death penalty and called for alternatives to incarceration, particularly for non-violent offenders, who make up a significant portion of the prison population.

This is the Chuck Colson I was familiar with. May he rest in peace.

why do people include the bad deeds when folks die? -- can't we simply focus on the good -- all of us deserve hell after all

CC did some unsavory things back in the day yet wasn't Hitler nor Stalin

in the end, my assumption is he has much treasure stored up in heaven for his works to include leading many to Christ -- his White House escapades are Forgiven & Forgotten by God -- let us try & do the same

His conversion was dramatic and authentic, and for that I praise God!

As a young believer, Colson was one of my favorite teachers on the radio and I have read many of his books. I had no idea that he had been involved in Watergate.

That just goes to show what others have already said. God can change anyone He chooses, and yes, He is a God of many chances. The pastor of a local church I used to attend used to be addicted to all kinds of hardcore drugs, etc., but God changed His life powerfully many years ago.

I'll definitely be revisiting some of my favorite teachings and books by Colson. I will miss hearing his voice on the radio. God bless him and may he rest in peace.

I remember who Chuck Colson was before Christ transformed him. And I've seen who he has become in Christ. The difference is to the glory of God.

Christ can certainly transform lives! Praise God!
