Now it's M & M Mars (the maker of Skittles, the candy Treyvon Martin had purchased at the convenience store before he was killed) and the Arizona Public Service Company, in addition to the other 7 companies who had already left ALEC:

It's a total of 9 companies now:

Coca Cola
Pepsi
Kraft
Intuit
McDonald's
Wendy's
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
Arizona Public Service Co
M & M Mars

The link says 8 companies, but with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation it's a total of 9.

You posted about how you eat "dog poison" aka chocolate, every day. You said that fluoride is indeed poisonous in high concentrations, but that otherwise it is not. That's why messengeroflight said "Pass the chocolate." :)

Gideon, I did not think you would be one to take scaremongering so much to heart. To disagree on grounds of your right not to have your water tampered with is your right in the US ... no problem, but to say there is "rat poison in the water supply" is open to such misinterpretation. So many things that are good in small quantities are poisonous in big quantities, including many essential vitamins, and of course it differs across species. So, yes, fluoride in a sufficient amount used to be included as a constituent in rat poison. Fluoride is added to the water supply just about everywhere here down under, in a concentration of something like one part per million, not unlike that found in "natural" water supplies before the naturally occurring chemicals are leeched out of them in water treatment plants ... and it worries me not at all, especially as dentists assure us that it keeps our teeth happy.

I also regularly eat dog poison. A small amount of chocolate can be fatal to a dog .... but it will not poison me, even in quite large quantities - contribution to obesity notwithstanding. :D

I had forgotten about that post - it was last December!
Apologies, messengeroflight.

Here's the bottom line about Treyvon Martin's death: it has focused unprecedented attention on the activities of the American Legislative Exchange Council, which created Stand Your Ground legislation not just in Florida, but all over the country.

Here's a link:

Quoting from the link:

"The past month has been the largest amount of exposure about ALEC probably in its history," said Lisa Graves, a leader at the Center for Media and Democracy, which along with other groups has been targeting the organization.

It's a shame that businesses allow themselves to be bullied by anti-Second Amendment liberals over this issue. I think Florida Statues § 776.012 and § 776.013 are good legislation that simply recognize people shouldn't have to run away or be killed when threatened by others.

All kinds of special interest groups write all kinds of legislation (including your beloved Obamacare). So what? When it's done by a free-market advocacy group, you suddenly have a big problem with it? I personally know someone who works for ALEC. He is an intelligent, highly educated, rational person who espouses libertarian views that closely align with mine. To say that ALEC "leave[s] lawmakers' constituents out of the loop" is false. I live in an area where my views are not, and will never be represented in government because one party has a stranglehold on politics. For whatever reason, the people here always vote them in, even though they almost always vote for conservative ballot measures that are diametrically opposed to the political stances of the people they just voted into office (again). ALEC represents me in government because for whatever reason the majority where I live can't figure out that the people they're voting for don't hold the same values as they do.

By the way, you never provided evidence of your assertion in the title of the thread: "American Legislative Exchange Council - Pollution is Good?"

Legislation isn't a problem. Legislators are supposed to...legislate. But they're supposed to represent their constituents and not have Big Business at their elbow writing it with them!

And I don't care what the Associated Press says -- it isn't ONLY liberals, either theoretically or actually, who would have a problem with this scenario.

This was a poll question. Please take the poll and give us your opinion of this supposition (which does have a question mark BTW).
