Jorge,

Praise God!

If this is recent, wecome to the family of God! If there is anything we who are online can do for you, let us know! And don't neglect finding face to face Christians who can help guide you. Especially a pastor, a mentor, and a small group.

It not about how hard you try.
Have you read the Bible?
What is it you can't believe?

The Bible says that even the deamons believe and shook with fear
In Matthew 17:14-19
Mark 1:24
Paul in Corinthian's said, "At first I didn't count it as a gift and begged God to remove it.
Three times I did that and He told me---my grace is enough it's all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness.
Once I heard that I was glad and let it happen.
I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift."

Try Jesus Christ acknowledge your sin and the Holy Spirit will lead you into all truth.

CW,

Jesus is not something you try, like a new soda or drug. You either live for Him and obey Him, or you don't. Telling people to "try Jesus" will do nothing but make them disillusioned and angry with God (as well as Christians, ingeneral) when they expect all these good things to come their way and all they get is tribulation and persecution (what Jesus promised those who follow Him).

Tsnody,

I disagree. I'm going to say that Ps 34:8 is an invitation to "try the Lord". There are those who have never experienced the sweetness of life in Christ. Some of those people believe there is a hell, and that they are bound for it. Others believe that this life is the only one they will know, and they are desperate to pack as much gratification as they can into their 80 odd years.

"Try Jesus" works for some of those people, the real cost of following Jesus notwithstanding.

On a lighter note, I saw a marquee outside a church that said
Quote:
Try Jesus. If you don't like Him, the devil will always take you back.

That may not be precise theology, but I got a big laugh out of it.

T, here are a couple of thoughts:

First, the "Sinner's Prayer" cannot accomplish salvation. Salvation is first and last a gift of God, given freely, by grace through faith. (Romans 3:21-28, Eph 2:8-9) But faith, also, is a gift of God. No man can believe unless first drawn to faith by the Holy Spirit. (John 6:44) Jesus told the same thing to Nicodemus in John 3 when He said to him "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." All men are born spiritually blind, fully dead in their trespasses and sin, incapable of believing or of any truly good works (Eph 2:1-2).

But that won't get your friend off the hook. Romans 1:18-21 tells us that all men know of God, but reject Him. He seems to be relying, or at least hoping, that God is merciful and loving, and will overlook his sinfulness and his sinful thoughts, words and deeds, neglecting the fact that the Scriptures also tell us that He is rightous and just. His justice cannot allow sin to go unpunished. And the picture of God's wrath against His enemies that is given in Scripture is a frightening picture. God's wrath is as terrible as His love is good, make no mistake. Your friend needs to be reminded of this. For until one knows the bad news of what a terrible sinner he is and what a horrible fate awaits him because of his sin, he cannot truly understand the good news of the gospel. How can it be good news if it delivers us from nothing?

Where, then does faith come from? How do I get it? Paul tells us in Romans 10:
Quote:
17So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Advise your friend to begin a serious study of God's Word. For it is God's written Word and the preaching of the gospel that are the means by which God grants the gift of faith. And remind your friend that it is not a large quantity of faith that is required. Jesus said faith the size of a mustard seed is sufficient to move a mountain. Faith that size is also sufficient to bring salvation.

And finally, pray for your friend. He lives in darkness, blinded to the truth of the gospel by the prince of the power of this age. Only the Holy Spirit can work faith in his heart. Your smooth words and his working hard at it cannot produce faith. But God can, because He is in the business of saving sinners like you and me.

Regards.

I'am in agreement somewhat of the above reply of Jimd just to the subject:Just can't believe no matter how hard he tries, because of peoples attitudes towards having faith in GOD the Father, besides of what the Lord Jesus had said in (John 6:44) about can no man cometh unto me except my Father draw him. of course this is a true fact because of the divine diety of Jesus Christ which is GOD only begotten son which is still our Lord and having power over all and everything in all substances, as stated in Ephesians 6:

keep him in prayers to the Father, for ONLY the Holy Spirit can open up His heart and mind and be able to receive jesus by sincere faith...

pray that God would chose to bring him to salvation in Christ, for ONLY the work and person of the Spirit can cause the spiritual dead sinner to be able to receive christ by faith...

IF He is one of the Elect of God, he will for certain come to believing faith in christ, continue to pray for that!

I notice this thread started years ago. Hope the guy is saved by now. I think it helps for someone to pray along the lines of "God, if you exist, show me."

If I'm praying for someone whose not saved, or a brother or sister who are struggling with something that they think may be "too big" or "too small" for God to handle, I like to pray, "Lord reveal yourself to XXXXX, not as we think you are, but as you know yourself to be." I think I started using that after I read CS Lewis's The Screwtape Letters

Some of us come to Christ through our heart and others through our minds.

Though I cannot remember where I read this article about the preaching of Wesley and Whitfield, where Whitfield (paraphrased) said God needs us both. Because men will respond to one or the other. I think if both Arminians and Calvinists could come to see this, it would/could eliminate many many arguments.

Paul to the Romans wrote:
Rom 10:1-4 Brethren, my heart's desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation. For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. For not knowing about God's righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Zeal w/o knowledge leads to self-righteousness

What is stopping you? Do not mistake man's in humanity to man with the will of God. (The question of evil) Do not look to the churches, that are filled with inherently broken people, but rather seek God out, he is the only one perfect. Pray that the lord reveal himself to you, not as we may think he is but who he knows himself to be.... Pray that daily... and "then hold on." for he may surprise you.
