I think we have all noticed that there are more people bringing their Electronic Bible (phone or tablet) to church these days.
I myself have several Bibles (including the NET), commentaries, Strongs, dictionaries loaded on my android.
But I still prefer to use my paper Bible in church.

A fellow Christian mentioned to me, he thinks using a Ebook Bible can stunt your Biblical spiritual growth.
His reasons:
1) would never have to learn the order of the Books of the Bible.
A digital Bible user would just have to push icons.
2) You can see your written notes and verses all at one glance on the whole page.
3) And he claims he can beat any digital device in finding a particular verse.

My view, just read and meditate upon the Word of God using whatever device you favor.
That's why today, more than at any time in history, we have the Bible available to everyone in every format, language, and reading level.
There should be no excuse.

Does my friend have a point?

There's something lost and something gained whenever there's a major shift in how we store and use information. When Gutenberg's machine was introduced, there were people who preferred manuscripts for about a century.

An E-Bible works very well for some people, and not so well for others. Knowing the order in which the Bible is laid out is useful information. But it's not fundamental. It's not the same order as the order in which the books were written.

Your friend has his preferences. You should follow yours. If your friend can find verses faster than the machine (for now), all well and good. If you can find them faster on an E-Bible, then that might be a good choice for you.

Well said Strider33.

I guess it depends also on the upbringing and culture a person was raised in concerning what type of Bible they use. Personally, I prefer a book, I like the feel of a book and I am comfortable with them. My daughter has an e-book with a Bible on it. My wife uses both an I-pad and a regular Bible.

The real benefit of e-books is that they can be easily stored as opposed to books which need a book shelf. In other words, books take up space. I have six bookcases in our study, one in the living room, two in the basement and one in our bedroom. Electronic books and software take up very little space and are convenient to carry.

However, I just like the feel of a book made of paper.

I agree. Personally, I use printed editions of the Bible for most of my devotional reading and a laptop for most of my Bible study.

You are right.
Anyone can now carry a complete library of study books in a phone or ipad.
I love it.
For devotions, I still prefer using a printed Bible though.... just me.

It is all a matter of preference.

My daughter has a nook with several books on it including a Bible. However, before going technical she, over the past years acquired 3 book cases of books - she is truly our daughter. However, she loves her nook.

God is Spirit and not a book or device so I do not see what difference it makes as long as you get the Word into you. I think one of those contraptions would be great not that I have one or have had the pleasure to play with other than a brief experience.
