Prior to this, EVERY SINGLE Christian denomination / sect taught the use of contraception was immoral because it was a grave violation of the natural law and Biblically untenable.

Then after 1930 all the sects decide Christianity had gotten it all wrong? How can something be immoral and Biblically untenable one day, then moral and tenable the next?

OK. You have convinced me. Pharmakeia is the contraceptive pill. Did the magicians of Egypt swallow the pill themselves or did each of them feed it to his staff?

Exod 7:11 (LXX)
11) συνεκαλεσεν δε φαραω τους σοφιστας αιγυπτου και τους φαρμακους και εποιησαν και οι επαοιδοι των αιγυπτιων ταις φαρμακειαις αυτων ωσαυτως

Theophilus,

I'm not sure if you knew this or not, but the Pentateuch was written in Hebrew, not Greek. The Hebrew words for sorcerer and magician found in Exodus 7:11 are kashaph and chartom. ...
That was irony.

I am aware that the word enchantments (KJV) is lahat.

H3858 לַהַט lahat (lah'-hat) n-m.
1. a blaze
2. (from the idea of enwrapping) magic (as covert)

It is interesting to compare the LXX to the Hebrew text to get an understanding of how the Greek word was used at that time.

Er, Onan, and Shelah are not nearly as central to the narrative as Tamar. If you read Genesis 38, much of it is given to describing how Tamar was finally to give birth to a child (well, two children) from the house of Judah. She had to resort to a ruse.

One of those two children was Perez. Among Perez' descendants are David, and Joseph, Mary's husband. So Tamar's child was very important in the overall plan of things.

yeah, yeah, we're not supposed to get involved in endless discussions about genealogies. But ... 8)
