I am teaching my first Small group study in 2 weeks and in desparate need of material! I figured I start with one of my passions - my kids - Therefore, I'm going to do a study on parenting. Any suggestions? I'll need other material in the future so other subjects would also be appreciated!

Thanks

Todd Charske

I would check out "Christian Living in th Home by Jay Adams. Dobson;s Focus on the family would be another source. Likewise either the Radio Bible class or John McArthur's ministry would have materiel.

ditto your denomination. God bless, John

bible.org sells Ken boa's book on the subject
Hearts And Minds: Raising Your Child With a Christian View of the World

http://store.bible.org/product.asp?ProductID=146
Quote:
Parenting is about more than molding the behavior of our kids. It's about influencing a child's heart and mind. Hearts and Minds shows parents the most effective way to influence a child's heart. This book applies the principles of Christian worldview in How Now Shall We Live to the process of raising children. It deals with issues like educational choices, how to handle the teaching of non-Christian worldview in secular schools, and how Christian worldview informs parenting choices.

I believe that John is saying that most denominations have a resource department so you should check out your denominational resources. If you are not sure about where to start you might ask your pastor.

You might also check out http://www.familylife.com (I hope I'm not breaking the rules referring to this link!)

Their Homebuilders studies have a parenting and family series that is designed for small group studies.

Blessings,
Randy.

edit by admin, (fixed link) randy, you forgot the colon after http ;)

An interesting delay between the most recent message and the one previous to that. Were you away for a long time?

Cheers

Sorry nothing against the group I just don't spend much time on blogs. Plus the last time I got into a real discussion on this site most of the people proved that they would rather nit pick about silly things as opposed to focusing on Christ. After reading through Romans I realized that some of the silliness I caused. I am now a BIG picture focus in life and Blogging. The purposes should be to bring people to Christ not criticize them for sematics (sp?) I am hopinh the churches in America will start doing the same thing. This includes this site (The church is the people therefore this is a church in my opinion)

I'm not sure how one can have a church without sacraments but I do appreciate the sentiment.

What's your perspective on Hebrews 10 where it says "Let us be concerned for each other, to stir a response in love and good works. Do not absent yourself from your own assemblies, as some do, but encourage each other; the more so as you see the Day drawing near. " (Hebrews 10:24-25 NJB)

I would totally agree with it - It is the Bible.

The thing about that is stir a response in LOVE is the key to the verse. That's the part that was absent in my last 'bout with the site. I'm not sure about this LOVE but typically Love refers to Agope Love which means Love without any ties i.e. complete sacrificial LOVE. My thought on what was happening before is comments were made by people to prove their point kind of "I'm right you're wrong" and vice versa. This is not very Loving in my opinion and not christ like.

I could also go to the secondary theme of the verse "but encourage each other" it was again obvious to me that this was not happening.

I appreciate the Bible verse which further stats what Christ laid on my heart.

Again, I'll also emphasize that I am totally not innocent and I humbly ask for your forgieness and the forgiveness of Christ.

Pope I'd also ask you the same questions about your tag line:

The proof of love is in the works. Where love exists, it works great things. But when it ceases to act, it ceases to exist. -- Pope St. Gregory the Great

Do you feel that the Church always acts out of Love? I wish they did. Although, I feel with the Holy Spirit working in you it's possible to improve. The problem comes when people single out one individual and use them to exemplify the whole church. Often times that individual isn't walking in the spirit. I come from a lost background until the age of 32 - Believe me, my views of the church were that everyone there was a geek, wimp, etc. Man was I wrong some of the coolest toughest, nicest and most amazing people are believers. In fact, I'd say now that it would be extremely hard to be a "real" friend in "love" without Christ. Yes, there are good people that are non-believers but Christ could even strengthn them.
