I believe that he was indeed referring to a physical death. Agree completely that the OT saints were saved by faith in Christ as well. They believed prior to his coming and we after.

In keeping with Adam's rescue; Did God reveal to him his plan for man's redemption? Since the way to live, and genealogies were transferred via oral tradition until Moses, so this is obviously conjecture, but would be based on God's word to Adam & Eve when the where chastised that day in the garden.

Did God say more? I am sure Part of what Moses wrote was a parallel of the oral tradition. Of course folks could argue that the left out portion from Adam would be in the so-called "Book of Adam"; not inspired.

As to the first quote:

I'd go back and recheck that there star...this was the line that the serpent used when deceiving Eve, God never said not to touch it. He told Adam not to eat it.

The whole episode of the temptation in the garden so tells the tale of humanity and obedience. One can only assume that Adam added to the word of God when he told her not to touch it. (See Gen 2:15-16 for what God told Adam) By adding that simple phrase he gave ample room to the serpent to take and twist the rest of it. Just as when well meaning church folk invoke against movies, music, and the like, the ends may end with consequences more evil than had they not added to the word.

Second quote:

samesame, I'm surprised, you're usually much more diligent than that. It doesn't say he didn't transgress, it said he wasn't deceived. One can look at this and surmise that he was persuaded by Eve, but Adam had been told directly by God what the consequences would be. Deliberate sin. It's speculative to say if both Adam and Eve were deceived, maybe, just maybe God could have cut them some slack. Maybe, maybe not.

and lastly the third quote:

Neither Adam nor Eve had eaten from the tree of life yet. It is this tree that they would have had to have eaten from in order to life an everlasting life. I don't think they were dead spiritually by the end of this episode, in fact, they accepted the garment that the Lord had provided in place of their rather poor efforts to cover themselves.

We humans have a tendency to do that, try to make up for or cover our sins, don't we. When in reality the only answer for our sins is found in Jesus Christ. We still sometimes have to face the consequences for our actions though, don't we? I mean if you kill someone, then become a christian, that's not a get-out-of-jail-free card now is it? No.
