Hello there, this is my first time to post, so please excuse me if I ask something already covered in another thread (though I have browsed through and haven't found it yet).

I could use some help. I have had several young men come to me recently asking for good book recommendations on biblical masculinity. I have personally read Wild At Heart by John Eldridge(alright, but not crazy about it), halfway through God's Gift to Women by Eric Ludy (has some good stuff, but the verdict is still out), and The Mark of a Man by Elizabeth Elliott (fabulous book). I was wondering if anyone had additional recommendations, particularly ones that had been impactful to you in your life? A short tidbit on why you recommend the book, who the target audience is (younger, married, single, etc.), and what particular issues you thought it addresses well would be very helpful. Thanks!

You can also try The Measure Of A Man by Gene Getz. I read it a long time ago and remember it being a good book.

The Masculine Mandate: God's Calling to Men
Richard Phillips (Author)
Description: There is a crying need in the church today for men to be men. But competing visions for what a man is to be —some growing out of popular culture and others arising from flawed teaching in the church—are exacerbating the problem.

Rev. Richard D. Phillips believes the problem and the inadequate solutions being put forward demand sound exegesis of biblical passages relating to masculinity. The Bible alone has the answer to what men are to be in the eyes of their Creator.

In this book, Rev. Phillips provides this essential exegesis and issues a call to reformation in the evangelical church’s attitude toward the role of men in the family, the church, and society.

Richard D. Phillips "gives us an accurate picture of what it means to be God's man. The reader will come away reassured that even though he may possess none of the attributes that the world deems essential for a 'man's man,' nevertheless he can be one of God's men."
--Jerry Bridges, from the Foreword

It's on my to read list, so I can not comment on it directly but the reviews seem spot on for men

Job the Silent - - to me - - showed that
One can get into trouble... and - - it is as NOTHING. NOTHING. And there almost is no need, even to defend yourself, by words or deeds. If you are TRUE to God, then this is what matters. Witnesses may attack you - - and troubles may come, but - - the Truth will out. It will eventually come out.
Job was patient. Job waited on God, and kept his trust in him - - and virtually NOTHING else mattered. Acclaim of crowds? doesn't really matter. People talking bad about you? Doesn't matter. Even your Wife telling you to give up and die? Even THAT, doesn't matter. Why? Because the TRUTH rules, and it will eventually be the only thing that matters, after the chaff blows away.

Bruce's study shows that - - the book of Job, was Poetry, so was treated somewhat shabbily, and was possibly heavily modified. Perhaps some of his Friend's arguments were added later. Perhaps ALL were added later, because some of their arguments are quite disjointed. But it does not matter. The New Testament - - gives testimony to Job, even if the Job story, is disjointed. The NEW Testament, says - - Look at Job, and HIS patience.. So - - even if Job never spoke a word - - he STILL ended up Justified - and this is truly what matters.
