I am at work and on break, praying against temptation. So I thought I would see if any one else wanted/needed to talk. Call it an open forum for the tempted.

1Co 10:13 13 No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it. Context (NET)
. On the topic of temptation, tonight it is the desire to forsake the job God has given me to do. but Paul explains way I don't just walk off of the job tonight. At some point we all feel the same way!

Boy do I know a bit about that.

The solution for me was to look back top a time when I wasn't involved in the daily grind. To see what I had been considering as a profession/trade. I had spent a lot of my time working in places where I really wasn't happy, nor able to provide for all of my families needs. I've worked in factories, I've worked in offices doing clerical work. Now, understand me, I think those are both ok, but they were not for me. I had fallen in love in the 9th grade with mechanical drawing. And for four years it proved to be the best class I could take. Math and sciences were fine, and I did well in them, but they did not leave me feeling quite the same as the drawing did.

I went off to college to find myself ill-prepared for the level of work demanded of me, and as a result eventually found myself in a trade school being taught Mechanical design. I did well, secured a position at a company that provided weapons for the Navy. But I had many other issues which would prove to be my downfall. That's where the factory and office work came in. So I spent 10 years working jobs that I absolutely hated.

Early in the 1990's I was presented an opportunity to go back to school, which I took. The drafting that I so loved now involved computer software. So I applied myself top a rigorous course of study in Electro-mechanical design, which I successfully completed.

I was now back. I spent a few years paying my dues in low paying positions, then ten years ago I found myself working for a technical temporary jobs agency, did well on the three or four short assignments. The last one did the trick though. I've now been working for this company for more than ten years. I've survived every reduction in force (layoffs) that rocked the company over the years, and even when the company was sold, I was retained. I can only attribute this to the grace of God, as he gave me this great love for what I do. It has also proven to be the most interesting job, and the best paying job I've ever had.

All that to say this.

Do what you love and the money will follow (eventually). I get paid for drawing and teaching others (new hires) our way of drawing.

Mike

Well MIke,
I suppose I am just paying my dues then. I do look foreward to a day that I can get out of the rat race and enjoy what I do. But for now the best I can do is just thank God I still have a job in a state with one of the worst unemployment levels in history. No it's not what I want but, it sure does more than just take care of the family.

I think we all face that issue of working in places and situations that we don't wish. I too am one of those and I thanks God daily that I have a job. I know so many people who have been unemployed for 3 yrs + and its not from their not trying. I wonder what lesson is being learned for these people who are believers. I wonder why sometimes we who are working have to wait for "the real job" or ministry we are seeking.

I am learning day by day, to be faithful where I am. Hard on my flesh yes. But, I'll take that over the alternative any day.......lol
