Welcome to the volunteer room we are so glad you stopped by! If you are here that means that you are interested in becoming a volunteer at Bible.org. Before we begin I would like to take a minute to introduce myself:

Who am I? My user name is SonShine my real name is Gaye and I am a believer in Christ, Jeremiah 10:10 The Lord is the only true God. He is the living God and the everlasting King. I also believe that He has given me a mandate: Jer 1:5 &7: “Before I formed you in your mother’s womb,I chose you. Before you were born I set you apart....The Lord said to me...But go to whomever I send you and say whatever I tell you. This is my desire to speak for Him in whatever capacity He gives me. I live in Texas where I am the Volunteer Coordinator for Bible.org as well as the Admin for the Women's Exec Comm and the Tapestry Blog as well as being a helper for the Children's Ministry Coordinator. We recently moved from Fla to TX to fulfill the call of the Lord. My husband, David is the founder of the forum and is now the new Exec Direc for Bible.org. It is our hope and prayer that we (working together with you) are able to spread the word about the trustworthy resources for bible.org in whatever avenue God presents. What do I love to do: Study the Bible, interact with new people; write; cook; and love my kids.

Now that I've said hello here are a couple of things that we need you to do:

If you are interested in volunteering go to http://bible.org/book/volunteer-task-listings and fill out the volunteer application.
Once that is done, go to http://users.bible.org and join the group titled Site: Volunteers tasks and collaboration site
This is where new tasks are described and the volunteers interact with each other and the staff.
At any time you can email me using my forum user name SonShine memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=94 to ask questions or just to chat or here on the forum.

The Tagging task:
I am putting this task on hold.. I need my main developer to work on other items that are higher priority../s/ daustin.
background: As we get more articles on bible.org and as we add the ability for anyone to share their articles later this year we need to improve our ability to search articles by topic and scripture reference author etc and return relevant information so one can find the information they need. When bible.org doesn't have an article, we need to expand this to find and classify articles that are not on the bible.org site. Bible.org is set up to review all material that you find on the site so you can "trust" that it has its basis firmly founded on the scripture. When you search of site and on the INTERNET you are uncertain if its trustworthiness, therefore we need to build a set of tags so an author/article can inherit a trustworthy field. A 'good housekeeping seal" if you will. To do this we will make fields that allow one to append endorsements from xyz person or organization. ie. endorsed by Campus Crusade etc.

You can find a general description of this task on the http://www.bible.org page in the left block titled Project 1.3 Help us Tag articles,
it says in part:
Quote:
Tagging as a Navigation aid- As more and more content becomes available on Bible.org and the Internet in general, the user needs better tools to aid in the location and rapid assessment of articles as to their answering what the user is searching for. This project will be both a research project and an implementation project investigating ways to improve the location and assessment of vast quantities of material for users. It will attempt to harness the wisdom of the entire user Bible.org population to find “methods that work”. The Initial work will be in the following areas

*
Making better topic/key word lists for articles experimenting with more than one topic vocabulary (For example: 1-a formal site controlled, 2- machine generated/user recommended)
*
classifying articles for “what is the spiritual maturity level” of the targeted reader e.g 1-non-Christian, 2-new Christian, 3-practicing Christian, 4-Christian leader, 5-scholar
*
Pedigree/trustworthiness: many readers what to know if the teaching of an article can be trusted as to it being faithful to the scriptural teaching. We will experiment with various endorsements and user comments We are considering setting up a separate site that will allow anyone to post and share material.
*
“Valuable to me” Most users are looking for articles that a valuable to themselves. Understanding what are some things we could measure and report that will help one locate such articles would be useful Perhaps a reader feedback rating system (1-5) where the readers reported if the article was useful and would they recommend it to others
*
Other to be identified in the research segment of the project. (possibly do a similar tagging across the whole Christian Internet.

4.
The name and email for the point of contact for more information about the project
5.
name__Brian Seagraves forum name briansea Email_ http://bible.org/user/250/contact
6.
Describe the Need/Requirement

* As we add more and more content we need to improve the ability of users to find the appropriate article. We expect that people will want to find articles by bible passage and by topic or key word. We plan to improve this and give our users the ability to suggest topics for articles that we may have missed.
* Also we need to tag articles by spiritual maturity level of the reader e.g
o 1-non-Christian,
o 2-new Christian,
o 3-practicing Christian,
o 4-Christian leader,
o 5-scholar. If an articles is targeted to the new believer or a post seminary reader that should more apparent. We also want to add a pedigree/trustworthiness tag: many readers what to know if the teaching of an article can be trusted as to it being faithful to the scriptural teaching. To make progress on this requirement we will experiment with various endorsements and user comments
* As part of the thrust to increase content available to our community, we are considering setting up a separate site that will allow pastors and authors to post and share material with others with some mechanism of tagging the pedigree/trustworthiness of content available to the community.

this is the general description... as people volunteer we will show the topic they have selected on a diferent thread. feel free to as general questions here on this thread and specfic feedback on the subjects on other threads in this series.
