What's this about Bible in a Year? The latest message is March 9th. Am I supposed to find Bible in a Year somewhere else? Thanks.

From the Board Index (main page), scroll down to sub-forum 5a and you'll find The Bible in a Year.

Thanks, Gideon. I got there, but wasn't allowed to look at any posts. Apparently I'm supposed to go to my user control panel or something and get in that way. I'll keep trying - for a bit. I'm finding the site a bit overwhelming, which is odd considering I developed computer based training for 18 years... I'll go take a nap. Maybe it will all make sense in an hour or so.

Right, DJ. Sorry I forgot to mention that you have to request access. The link to your UCP (User Control Panel) should be in the upper left-hand right-hand area of any page (assuming you are logged in). If you follow that link and then select the Usergroups tab you should find The Bible in a Year listed under NON-MEMBERSHIPS. Select The Bible in a Year and then Submit. The usergroup membership protocol helps us to manage the board and, among other things, deal with individuals who only come here to cause trouble. I hope you won't find the protocols too cumbersome.

I found my way in. I thought there might be discussion of the scripture, but as far as I can tell, I just go to the day, click on it, and see what that days' text is. Is there more that I'm missing?

Nope, you're not missing anything. The Bible in a Year is simply a reading schedule, but you can certainly start discussions in 5b (Old Testament) or 5c (New Testament) of any passages you like.

Thanks, Gideon. I probably need to find a methodology to my use of this site, but right now I'm having fun poking around. I've been reading Old Testament posts this morning, and get a kick out of the discussions. It's like, instead of arguing about cars or sports, people are getting into the Word and examining and polishing verse after verse. Much more edifying.

Some of the posts are a year or two old. Is it too late to comment, you think? Or do some of the posts seem to be alive?

You can revive an "old" thread just by adding a post. There are always new people who might like to continue a discussion, or the original people might get re-excited as well. Of course, if no-one responds, it could be that everyone has moved' on for that topic. Or you can start a new thread of your own that picks up the point you would like people to explore with you.

Metholdology?
Well, as a Moderator I check the View New Posts button on the index page every day if I can. Occasionally I use the View Active Posts, which seems to give a similar list. Now and then I look at the View Unanswered Posts in case something has slipped where someone really seemed to need an answer.

But if I was not a Moderator, I think I would do what you are doing and look around everywhere for a while. As well, View Active Posts for a few visits and add my responses in the ones I wanted and get submissions set to topics i was interested in but not ready to comment yet - you do that in your User Control Panel.
And - confession time here - I really think i would somehow set a time-limit! I am one of those who can get "hooked" on the Forum and spend way too long in front of the computer. It may be reading about Christian things, but it is no substitute for real live relationships with other people.

djsmithinstdznr - good to have you here. Gideon may well have some other practical advice too!

The only other thing I can think of at the moment is that you might want to subscribe to some of the discussion threads so that you'll get an email notification when a new post has been made. What makes the subscription feature so nice is that the email notifications contain links that take you directly to the last post made in the thread. To subscribe to a discussion thread, just scroll to the bottom of the discussion that interests you and select Subscribe topic. Once you have subscribed to a discussion topic, the Subscribe topic link will read Unsubscribe topic. Selecting that link will of course end your subscription to the topic and the link will change back to its original form. You can also subscribe to entire forums, e.g. 5e: General Bible Discussions.

I have an idea and would like to get your thoughts. Every morning as part of my routine, I get all my RSS feeds in Google Reader so I start the day caught up on all the news I'm interested in. One of the feeds I get is that days reading of the Bible in a Year and because it came from a site that supports the NLT that's what I've read. Recently, I've re-discovered the Net Bible and really love it for the translation itself and all the research materials that are available. Here's my question. Is there a way to get an RSS feed of the daily Bible in a Year reading? or at least the links so I could click on the link and it goes to that days old testement reading for example? Sometimes when I'm traveling, all I have is my blackberry and I could do my reading on that as well. I think this would be a great way to introduce more people to Net Bible and help us read every day. What do you guys think?

I have just started reading the bible in a year. I am starting from the beginning. I have read January 1, 2008 readings. I really enjoyed reading the three of them together because it expands together thats what I think. I really love to read the bible every day when I am free.

I have read the three readings from January 2, 2008. I enjoy reading different books from the bible and I like to read the scriptures in order of the year but I like this way too. Thank you.

I have read the three readings from January 3, 2008. I love reading the story about Noah and the flood and especially about the birth of Jesus.
