There is a beta-level add-on for Firefox called "Ubiquity" (see http://labs.mozilla.com/2008/08/introducing-ubiquity/) which allows more natural language access to common web-based functions, such as sending email.

Playing around, I have a very, very simple pair of scripts for Ubiquity for the NET Bible. After installing Ubiquity on Firefox, then subscribe to these scripts by going to http://colbyandlynne.com/ubiqcmds.html . If you agree to subscribe, then the following two commands will be added to Ubiquity's list of commands:

netbib - look up a particular passage in the NET Bible, open it in a new tab or window. Ex. "netb php 3:2-4"

netsearch - perform the NET Bible's "Universal Search" on a passage, word, or phrase, open it in a new tab or window. Ex. "nets abigail"

With Ubiquity, all you have to do is type the first letters of the command until it finds a unique command within its list.

I don't use netbib because netsearch does all of the same function plus more, and the screen you get is less functional. But someone might prefer it.

Caveat emptor - you don't know that I'm not a malicious dude, so convince yourself that it's not malicious before installing this, or any, Ubiquity script. I recommend you read a little about Ubiquity before installing it. However, I really love it (and I use it more for the NET Bible than anything).

If you find improvements to the scripts, please let me know. I've not done much to make it idiot-proof or superfunctional - it works well enough for my purposes, and I don't have the free time now to give it bells and whistles. Also, feel free to make your own improvements and post the scripts elsewhere (or send them to me, and I'll update my list).

Enjoy.

Ooops - I should also give examples for the netsearch command taking a passage address for an argument, such as "nets eph 2:8-10" or "nets john 3".
