I gave up smoking a while back.

Glad to be free.

I wouldn't go so far as saying necessarily a sin in all circumstances, although some ppl are vehemently of that opinion, I know.

(Still it might indeed be sinful for some ppl when they over-indulge.)

But I'm glad I stopped, anyway.

I don't like extremes of temperature. I don't like extremes among preachers. People maybe think I'm extreme. But never mind about me

I gave it up 19 years ago.

Also, I must say that to consider cigarette smoking a "sin" is kind of silly and not very meaningful. I mean, we all sin. Why single out smokers? Is it a sin because it's bad for your health?

not that I ever smoked, but Spurgeon was notorious for smoking cigars (in a graceful way)

Derek:

I thought it was a pipe.....

(Actually, before the time of the American Civil War, it was widespread for ppl to smoke pipes after church, including women.)

Then came the Progressive Era, after slavery was abolished and there was an often feminine-led movement to abolish all sorts of other things as well.

1) Cigarette smoking in public [It at first succeded, when ppl were arrested for smoking in public, but then came the First World War and huge numbers of women wanted to do their bit and send items to the troops; this included huge quantities of cigarettes.]

2) Alcohol. [It succeeded; but Prohibition created bootlegging, huge business for the Mafia, and a lot of the problems in Cuba, which became a haven for the Mafia.]

I still struggle with smoking! Although I personnally don`t consider it a sin,it is preached as sin from the pulpit of local churches within my community. These same churches also advocate judgemental views which I do consider as sin.So I guess to keep from falling into the later,I just look for ways to quit rather than fall into being judgemental.

She quit too; congrats to her, too, then. :)

(Differently from the ladies, we men don't have the extra hazard of losing some of our lipstick on the cig. stubs; so she will be pleased, no doubt.)

It took me longer to quit than her, but when I didn't have a smoking partner, It became much easier, cuz I just don't like being apart from her. It's hard to be wrapped around someone finger if there not with you on the same page.

So you guys used to smoke together, then? :)

It can be very relaxing to smoke with someone, and smoking with her must have been, but, once on your own, there's maybe a bit less of an incentive to keep at it, right.

(Great you've both quit, anyway.)

Me too has given up smoking after being addicted to cigarette for 42 long years and I only recently stop smoking when
I suffer a heart attack in 2006. I'm glad God had freed me of this sinfull vice.
