We have nicotinic receptors in the brain, as you add nicotine to the system the number of these receptors increase to adjust and they become accustomed to bring stimulated. when you stop they get kinda grouchy.

First, I do not condone smoking in any form. However, I must point out quite a few whom have smoked for decades and lived to quite an old age. I'm fairly sure most of us know or have known a few. I"ve had one man in my church who smoked since he was a teenager and lived to be 98 yrs. We did his funeral last year. He was a good man and a fine Christian. It is God who numbers our days. Though I believe we should take care of ourselves as our lives are a gift from God, forcing our views on others in this area is not, IMO, being an honorable witness to God's grace.

Second,

You are right and I will say that it is not hard to quit smoking.

lovejenet, welcome to our forum but I respectfully take issue with your statement above. I know some who can easily quit smoking and seem oblivious to this addiction. I know some who've smoked since early adolescense and the addiction is VERY HARD for them to deal with. To paint with a broad brush and dismiss the testimony of the latter because of the former is insensitive and, for some, unforgiving IMHO.

Last, I think we should all carefully review Romans 14 and pay attention to the points Paul made there. There are much more applications that just eating veggies (diet) and holidays for worship. There are much worse sins on our day than smoking and I daresay we ignore them at our peril. We are at risk of paying attention to a gnat and swallowing a camel (Matthew 23:23-24).

Blessings,
Randy

I'm sure what makes smoking so addicting can be researched readily over the internet. Personally, I was fond of the way i could play with the smoke. I have quit smoking and so far I haven't felt the urge to start the habit again. It shouldn't be too hard if you really want to quit. Just make sure you get plenty of exercise. This is where you will feel the effects of quitting. Your endurance would be three-fold if you're not a smoker.

I think it's a good idea to quit, anyway.
