Gideon,
It is indeed "stellar" and it is amazingly well-written. I have enjoyed the way he chose to arrange it and haven't found another OT Theology that I enjoyed or appreciated more than his.

An Old Testament Theology - Bruce Waltke

This is stellar! One of the finest works in my library. Waltke’s approach is first of all exegetical, but also canonical and thematic. And his book is one with a lofty objective, helping the reader:
  • To know God personally
  • To understand the nature of God’s revelation
  • To know oneself
  • To understand the Old Testament
  • To understand the New Testament
  • To contribute to spiritual formation

Bruce Waltke wrote:
This book is a profession of faith—a reasoning faith, I hope, and reasonable: what Saint Anselm called “faith out on a quest to know” (fides quaerens intelletum).
J.I. Packer wrote:
Exegetically and theologically it is all pure gold, and every teacher of the Old Testament will gain new insights from working through it. It is a fitting crown to a very distinguished career.
John H. Sailhamer wrote:
Bruce Waltke's An Old Testament Theology is truly a great work from the hand and heart of a great evangelical biblical theologian. Bearing the marks not only of hard work and responsible exegesis, but also a lifetime of creative thought and reflection on central biblical texts, Waltke's Theology will immediately join the ranks as the standard by which evangelicals will measure all future publications in this field.
Tremper Longman III wrote:
In An Old Testament Theology Bruce Waltke shares his lifetime of devout scholarly study of the Bible. He is a master interpreter, and all of us—scholars, clergy, and laypeople—benefit greatly from his tremendous insights into the text. This book is a must read fo all who study the Old Testament.

My apologies, Rick. I removed my initial post to add to it, making your reply appear to be hanging out there.

That's alright Gideon...and while I've read large portions of the volume I haven't read the entirety of it yet and I will eventually purchase it (I was even eye-ing it this last weekend in a store)...hopefully within the year for future studies...with all the others I've read (either in part or whole) Childs, Brueggeman, Goldingay, Sailhammer, Von Rad, and Kaiser (haven't gotten to House yet, but sometime soon Lord willing)...I still think that Waltke is the finest and I would be remiss to not have him on my own bookshelf and to not finish reading him myself (this volume is being quoted after all in my thesis and likely will be helpful for my hopeful dissertation topic...though I haven't read in it for that yet).

The Last Place On Earth, by Roland Huntford:

"Scott and Amundsen both wanted to be first to the Pole.
One of them won. The other became a hero."

It maintains that through sheer incompetence, Scott finally managed to kill himself and others. His wife, (much like George and Libby Custer) helped make him into a hero. The highly competent Norwegian,
Amundsen, won the race but not the prize. Or something like that. :-)

I'm highly skeptical of any of those claims. Speaking from the experience of having flatlined for extended minutes 3 times, when I hear stories along those lines, bright lights, etc... And grandiose claims, I begin thinking passive aggression and borderline personality disorder. I have no clue if that has anything to do with your authors there. I'm not saying it does. Just admitting to my inherent bias with such supernatural claims for anything but metaphor.

When I can, I am reading "John, The Gospel of belief" by Merrill Tenney, Dean at Wheaton College 1948. I just love books that were printed before UPC codes. It actually has thread for binding.

I am on a series kick lately. I just finished The Little House series and the Harry Potter series. I am now reading the Narnia series and have plans to read the beginning of the Nancy Drew series.
