I just got done reading my second book by Ted Dekker. "Blink". I came across him by pure accident. A friend of mine told me about a Christian movie coming out called "Three" and wanted to watch it with me before she left to mission in Colombia. Unfourtunatly it wasn't playing near us. I started getting interested however because she said it was a horror movie but I had read it was a thriller.

Now, I've been reading detective novels by a guy named Lawrence Block. Really really good writer but as my life changes I am more put off by the language and descriptive scenes of an adult nature. I love my detective novels so I didn't know what to do. Finally, got a catalog from FCB and a pre order on three the movie was on sale with a free copy of the novel "Thr3e". Bingo.

Got it and thought it was one of the best suspense thrillers I have ever read and what really shocked me is it wasn't using crude language or crude adult situations. Most people would think that'd be a boring story, but it wasn't! I could not put the book down.

After it was done I was addicted. I had to get another Thriller by Ted but FCB didn't have the one I was looking for (Obsessed). Instead I risked a book called "Blink". At first I thought I made a mistake because the book started out in Saudi Arabia and was about a princess and muslims and ::yawn::. 3 chapters in I was hooked though. I could not stop reading. Sure it wasn't the typical suspense thriller I like , but it was darn good!

I encourage any fans of this genre to check Ted Dekker out. Thr3e is a great starting place. http://www.teddekker.com (I think this is the address) has more info on the books as well as trailers for most of them.

I really like Ted Dekker. It was my daughter (16 yrs old) who first introduced me to him. She loved the Red, Black and White books.

I just got finished reading Showdown. Really good book.

I have heard alot about Thr3e, but haven't bought it yet. I want to finished up the Frank Peretti novel I am reading. He's another good Christian suspense thriller author.

If you like detective stories, you might want to try out Sigmund Brouwer. I finished his novel, Out of the Shadows, on a business trip to New Orleans. Very good book.

I think it is great the these three authors of suspense can write such good book without any of the nasty language or scene. I think it make the reading even more enjoyable. I wish more authors would write that way.

Thanks for the recommendation. I actually bought my friend Black for her plane trip to Colombia. I didn't realize it was a three parter at the time. Now I want to get the series!

I'm kinda iffy on peretti because I watched hangman's curse and bought visitation. He adds a demonic kind of aspect to those stories and the movies didn't really have me on the edge of my seat. I may give him a try but definitly not those novels.

Be nice to get a book of the month club here.

Hey there fish :) Could you elaborate on what you don't like about the demonic kind of aspect? I've just read This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness and yes it talks of demons but it also talks of the saints and angels. ;) I know when I read them it really made me think of the verse in the scriptures that tells us that
Eph 6:12 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. Context (NET)

Either way they are good books without the trash talk and vulgarity that seems to plague our book stores these days.

The thing with those movies was, they weren't really suspenseful and I think having demons in them or occult groups made them worse for me. I never really like Stephen King's novels for the same reason (though his short stories I love because they remind me of Ray Bradbury's writings). I'm still up for trying a Peretti book but I think I'm done watching movies based on them. Not bad movies but not really ones that grab my attention.

Seriously, you looking into my window? I am so tired from working long days and I am being sucked into his books and staying up later then I should reading by flashlight. Obsessed is supposed to be in the mail soon (5 dollar hardcover on ebay!).

I want to get the black red and white but together. Haven't found a good price, although the Christian bookstore has red for 10 dollars hardcover. There's a new used bookstore in town I have yet to visit though.

fishdirt,

I am almost done with Ted Dekker's, Black, Red, and White. I am on the last book now. OH BOY!!! (sorry don't mean to shout) These books are awesome. I read the first two books in a week!!! Ya gotta make sure you have plenty of free time or you will end up like me...a walking zombie at work. I think these books are going up as my all time favorite!!!

Let me know what you think when you get a chance to read them. :D

fishdirt,

It starts to make sense the further in you go. I am on book three now, but kinda got distracted this week. I need to get back to reading soon.

I think you'll love it.

So is anyone else reading the Circle books? Almost done with Infidel and I really can't wait until the next one comes out (may?).

Apparently Skin has a small tie in with Chosen. I was amazed to notice how a lot of these books tie into the trilogy. I read showdown without realizing this! Amazing writer.

I'm a member of the circle :) I love the way he weaves his characters from one book into another. It's like a whole different universe. As soon as my sister gets done with the new ones I'll read them (it was her turn to buy lol)

That is awesome. I wanted to do that contest but I looked through his forums and those kids are taking to a level I cannot see.

I'm amazed at how skilled Ted is. I would love to see Circle as a movie series.
