"...and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed." Acts 13:48
Appointed=NIV=fix-settle
Ordained=KJV=admit to Christian ministry
Marked=Message=distinguishing

Does this prove the Calvanistic belief in election?
No this don't have anything to do wirh Calvanistic belief!

I see it as, Jesus said " John 6:40 "For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day""For they will all be taught by God"
John 6:60; John 6:66

It isn't about the Arminian view or the Calvinist view they were only men like us it is about John 14:24 being able to Obey the Holy Spirit who will teach you/me into all things true, He is the guide who leads you/me into all truth.

He who fights with the blood of Jesus fights with a weapon that cannot know defeat put on the full armor of God, we don't fight against flesh and blood (meaning men) we fight against the power of this dark world-spiritual forces who use men to distort the truth.
God Bless

it may not be so with you, but I know this about myself (and reading both books and articles tells me it is a major hurdle for many) .... I want to have to power to choose - to have the power of "contrary" to be able to say "yes" or "no" even to Almighty God.

This is firmly related to the human desire to be able to "do" something - we all (or most of us) hate the thought of having to receive charity, of having to admit complete helplessness. On a purely human level, I fought this battle when I became disabled - it was such a blow to my pride!

So even in salvation, we want to be able to contribute something to our salvation.

in Christ

I've noticed that those of a Calvinist persuasion frequently offer this as a motive behind the Arminian perspective, but as one who finds the Arminian view the more compelling, I don't believe I contribute anything to my salvation. As I see it, salvation is a free gift from God and I merely receive what he freely gives. The reason I favor the Arminian view of salvation is that I find it more reasonable and more consistent with Scripture than the Calvinist view.

right or wrong, this should be the only reason any of us hold to a particular doctrinal view

I have to admit that this whole Calvinist Arminian controversy is way over my head.

I guess I'm with Billy Graham. The decision for or against Christ is the most important decision a person makes in his or her lifetime. Whether God's foreknowledge implies predetermination, and whether the person really had a choice or was just a pawn in the hands of a sovereign God are matters that I'll leave up to the expert apologists.

I still think the most important decision I ever made was the decision for Christ. And I rely on God, not myself, to keep me from reversing that decision. And if there's a logicaL contradiction buried in there somewhere, so be it.

funny isn't it .... from my reading and study, and my own walk with the Lord, I have come to the exact opposite conclusion ...

exactly !!!!!

We choose .... but God chooses .... in some way that I cannot fathom (I am only human after all) it is both - and I am so glad !!!!!

We will find out one day .... in the meantime, the important thing is just what you said .... we have to rely on God - totally, utterly and joyfully.

in Christ - with great joy
