To all
thanks all for responding to this task
I am finally getting around to responding to this request for help.
I have had some health problems (2 hospital stays for stents in my heart) but that is not
an excuse for not responding earlier, sorry
here is what I propose on how to tackle the task and I would like to get some feedback
from everyone involved and other users. (I will post this on the forum and use the forum
for public discussion of the project and invite additional input from forum users
Tasks
1-
develop the requirements doc and
the framework (baseline words that become the
"official baseline index" for topics/cyclopedic index for a NETBible and articles
our current status, in my view, with the
http://www.nextbible.org we have a pretty good way to look up words and phrases in the net bible (a concordance) so I think that will meet the primary on line requirement to find quotes and words in the net bible we also have the Treasury of scripture knowledge TSK that are associated with every verse (go to verse view and commentary tab
http://net.bible.org/verse.php?book=Mat ... mmentaries ) which is a good center column reference we are familiar with in print bibles.
BUT what we don't have is a good topic/cyclopedic index to classify articles and passages in the scripture and that is what I would like the primary focus of this task.
(Do you agree) ?? Comment please on the forum or by email------------------ -------------
Assuming you do agree then this task is similar to another one I would like to start and that is develop a better machine tagging system and human review and feedback for all the articles on bible.org so when someone searches in
http://www.nextbible.org we can list possible articles that can be used to help the user. (The current article topics section is pretty weak (too few topics) see
http://www.bible.org/topic.phpIt appears we need a more comprehensive list of both topics and key words to associate with articles the sections of text in the NET Bible. when we have that list we can instruct our authors to provide the key words and the topics that the article should be filed under and referenced by.
If we had such a list we could tag articles and then be able to associated them with search terms that one searches for and display them in the discovery box on the
http://www.nextbible.org tool set
But before I start the draft requirement description, I would like to ask for a person to team with me to be a primary facilitator on this project. If you would like to volunteer for that position post on the forum or send me an email
Requirement (draft)
1-task for the non computer techies I would like you to begin to generate a list of topics and even a Biblical Cyclopedia that we can standardize to use to classify (tag articles on bible.org to start see
http://www.bible.org/passage.php and
http://www.bibletexts.com/topical.htm 2- once we have a draft list of terms we want to call the initial official list, we would
task our techie volunteers to write a program) BOT) to:
2a- to machine tag all articles containing those concepts on bible.org and
Christian content on the web.(future) and to tag all scripture references used in the article and to suggest a main scripture focus for the article. (It will also tag additional data like author, date, copyright, permission etc the rest to be added later)
2b- after a first cut from a machine tagging effort we would have trained bible students/scholars/seminary interns to review the machine tags and correct and post the baseline results and then make a wizard/help tool available for the users to comment on,
suggest corrections and/or fields that are missing and even do the first level tagging of articles that have not been thought the machine/interne process.
The end result is hopefully a rich environment of articles and the scripture tagged by topic and or concept.
Your thoughts as to what else needs to be in the requirements document?
