You ever see the bumper sticker that says
"Next time you think you're perfect, try walking on water!"

Mathew 14:29 "Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water."

I seriously doubt Peter was perfect.

How do you know the Christian Church is in dire straits? When
1: Millions of professing Christians call Peter perfect when only God is perfect, thus making a deity of Peter.
2: People make money off of that phrase. Whom sells the phrase, Christians. Whom buys the phrase, Christians. Christians are filling their wallets by making a mockery of Christ.
3: If Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to enlighten/teach people these things, then why is the lie so prominent in the Church and not ever rebuked?

The Son of Man was indeed lifted up like the serpent in the wilderness, however one must ask themselves, what eventually became of that serpent?

BlackHorseman:

First, welcome to the forum.

Second, I think you're way overreacting here. I don't imagine anyone's proposing that Peter is perfect. Of all the biblical characters, his imperfections are among the most obvious.

I'd say whoever wrote that bumpersticker simply failed to think the matter through so thoroughly. The 'walking on water' is undoubtedly a reference to the Lord Jesus Christ, not to Peter.

There's a whole lot of issues in the body of Christ that deserve more attention than this one.

Evident Straw man argument so lets see about this,

Not one orthodox Christian says Peter is perfect. I'm pretty sure that stands as well for those displaying the sticker. You evidently convieniently for get that it is Christ who walks on the water and calls Peter out of the boat. BTW Christ is God and He is who the sticker is talking about.

Yes, they do. What exactly do you make money off of? As for filling pockets off of a mockery of Christ I'll trust God and leave the judging of hearts to him. If God does not judge a man finally untill he is dead, why is it you insist upon doing so now? (See Romans14:4) I'm not much for "bumper-sticker" theology but this interpretation ignores the obvious.

You are the first to pomote this lie and so, I guess you have your answer.

Would you care to expound on this thought?

Blessings,

Hi Black,

The other posts said it better than I could. What is REALLY
bothering you? There are lot's of smart people here who may be able to help. Btw, Peter denied Jesus (God) three times, I believe.

Take Care

Bumper stickers have to be concise. Sometimes, they end up being terse.

My favorite bumper sticker gave me my tag line.

I think that your statement was a generalization (referring to the first post - "Things aren't looking good for our heroes"). Yes, some are involved in ministry for reasons which may be duplicitous but there are many good things about the church and Christian ministry. As for our heroes, the one confirmation of biblical inerrancy is that it paints the lives of the people mentioned in all their colors: the good, bad and ugly. For example, Peter, I have never heard anyone say he was sinless, usually I have heard many negative things about him but also look at the victories God gave him in the book of Acts.

You mention the brass (bronze serpent) which goes back to Num. 21. The snake itself and pole was destroyed during the reign of King Hezekiah. 2 Kings 18:4 "He removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snake Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had been burning incense to it. (It was called Nehushtan.)" NIV This was done because the people worshiped the pole as an idol.
