Of course, if you are infested with corrupt files, malware, and viruses, it can only do so much.
Ditto for non-updated windows programs and security patches...

All my stuff is free as well as rated the best or equal to any:

CCleaner
AVG ( the only resident scanner)
Ad-Aware
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spyware Blaster.
(the last two have passive immunize protection, and AVG is resident)
Zonealarm firewall.

Ad and Spybot have resident options, but this overkill can slow down your machine.
Make sure you download and install the latest Firefox for YOUR system.
Start with a good crap cleaning though-- it may just do the trick.

Good luck

My last message assumes computer literacy. For example, if you have some hideous commercial virus scanner, you need to uninstal it before setting up AVG, which insists on being resident as it should. The others are all compatible and less troublesome.

I have been declared a prophet for "fixing a dead PC" when all I did was disable a Macaffee resident scanner that was causing problems....

Its amazing what people will think when a couple clicks make a difference.

Another freebie to add to that already great list is "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware", and when uninstalling software use "REVO uninstaller" in cleans out old files and leftover registry items which will slow things down.

Advanced System Care is good too, has a free version that run diagnostics, and repairs.

Of course, overloading on repair programs can also have diverse effects. Pick a couple you like and go with those, or what I sometimes do is install it, run it, and uninstall it, saving the setup files.

Another thing that I personally think slows browsing is "TOOL BARS" like yahoo google, and every other piece of software out there. I uninstall them all, from the control panel or REVO. Yes, even the AVG toolbar. The only toolbar I have up is the bookmark toolbar in Firefox.

Happy Cleaning

PS. I keep the setup files on a USB drive. BE SURE to save your passwords on paper b4 running CCleaner!!!

Reckon I should be alright now, I'm using firefox and with the higher internet speed I don't seem to have any problems. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
