The Gospel of Luke Bock, Darrel, BECNT, Baker If you have more than a year of Greek, then you should buy it. If you cannot afford these volumes, buy one of his other 2 works on Luke. This is the best work on Luke. If someone might not want this much detail – the NIVAC volume is the more complete of the other 2 works.
Bock, Darrel, NIVAC, Zondervan This is an expositional condensation of the BECNT volume. It is very good, but you do not need both of them. (There is a further condensation in the IVPNT series. It is also helpful.)
Bovon, Francois, Hermeneia, Fortress This is a critical work emphasizing both the Greek text and also theological interpretation. It is
highly technical.
Danker, Fredrick, "Jesus in the New Age' John sold his copy. It was not bad, but He had better.
Evans, Craig, NIBCNT, Hendrickson It is more up to date than Morris, but not nearly as warm or helpful to the teacher. Yet it is a good value for the price.
Fitzmyer, Joseph, AB. Doubleday Catholic Scholar with great expertise in the Biblical languages. He is more skeptical than necessary. John used it in the seminary library.
Green, Joel, NICNT, Eerdmans It is a very helpful work for sermon preparation. He is at Asbury Seminary. (Arminian) He would be a good second or third choice. It is somewhat like a series of studies rater than a traditional commentary.
Hendriksen, William, NTC, Baker It is conservative and Reformed. John can remember when it was a prized possession. It may still be helpful to the expositor, but you also need something which deals with current issues as well.
Liefeld, Walter, EBC. Zondervan This is a fine exposition, but it is not full enough to be a first choice. He taught ay TEDS. It is under revision by David Pao in conjunction with the author

Marshall. I. Howard. NIGTC, EerdmansJohn's wife gave this to him for their first Christmas. It is essential to the scholar. He seldom uses it now. You may need it for research, but unless you were working towards an advanced degree, use it in the library.

Morris. Leon, TNTC. Eerdmans If you are a pastor - Buy It! It is well worth the money and will bring you both warmth and knowledge.
Nolland, John WBC, Nelson Only academics should consider buying it. Nolland is more interested in interacting with other scholars than with a straight forward exegesis of the text.
Pate, Marvin, MGC, MoodyThis is a helpful work for thinking through the gospel. It would make a useful second tier commentary or perhaps a first choice for a Sunday School teacher.
Stein, Robert, NAC, Broadman & Holman This is a very good commentary for all preachers. If you use the NIV for your preaching, it might be your best first purchase.
