In Jewish reckoning, the day begins at sundown. That's not 12 am.

In NT reckoning, the hours of the day are reckoned beginning at 6 am. That's not 12 am.

If you start at 6am, and count forward 12 hours, you get 6pm. That's about sundown. The closer to the equator you get, the less annual variation there is in the time of sundown.

The Jewish people recognized sunrise and sunset as the beginning or end of a day. As far as I know, they did not use or estimate times such as noon or midnight. Watch "Fiddler on the Roof," there is a beautiful song called Sunrise - Sunset which signifies the beginning and end of a day according to Jewish culture.

Brother Gideon ; Shalom , my point is what Strider 33 Pointed out !!! 12 AM Midnight approx. 6 hours off to what Jesus said in John 11 : 9 ... !!! Sunrise to Sunset is approx. 12 hours A DAY to Jesus !!! We have been taught that the start of the Day is approx. 12 AM midnight !!! But as we search the scriptures - Malachi C. 1 vs. 11 reveals sunrise to sunset , not what the jews or hebrews kept to the law of Moses ; Sundown Friday to Saturday Sundown - their Sabbath !!! Does this not involve Two Sundowns ? Friday and Saturday ? Yes it does !!! Just like Jesus Christ brought the new covenant - Passover - Blood atonement for us , No Lamb was used with Jesus and his disiples , foot washings , unleavened bread and wine !!! Jesus was the slain Lamb of God ( Hebrews Eat Lamb at Passover , thus denying their Prophecied Messiah ) !!! So the New covenant Sabbath is Saturday Sunrise to Sunset !!! This is when they at the Council ruled to abolish the Sabbath - 7 th day - Saturday , and institute the day of worship to a National Sunday Law through out the roman empire = Baal worship ; Sungod ; birth of the sun !!! Daniel C. 7 vs. 25 Speaks of this !!! Hebrews C. 4 vs. 1 - 7 explains the true Sabbath as to Enter into the Lord*s Rest ... !!! In 325 A.D. they abolished the Passover Feast ( new covenant Jesus Christ became ; Bread and Wine , like Melchesidec blessing Abraham with ) and instituted Easter ( pagan god Ishtar - fertility = rabbits and chicken eggs ??? Deception ??? ) And they will call it Resurection day ( The Wave offering , day of 1 st fruits ( to Christ when Jesus Stormed the gates of Hell or Hades to release the prisoners ) !!! Malachi C. 1 vs. 7 KJV : For the Priest*s Lips should keep Knowledge , and they should seek the law at his mouth ; for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts !!! Except John himself accepts midnight as the start of the day.
In John 19:13-14, "When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge’s seat at a place known as the Stone Pavement (which in Aramaic is Gabbatha). It was the day of Preparation of Passover Week, about the sixth hour." That was six a.m.
John wrote late enough that the church was no longer using the Jewish clock. They were using the Roman clock that started at midnight. And if it's good enough for John, it's good enough for me.
As for John 11:9, Jesus was just commenting on the period of daylight. Daylight was about 12 hours. It says nothing about when the 24 hour day starts or ends.
