Can anyone list the saved women of the Old Testament? I might need this information just in case I want to use pointers for a sermon prep.

Don't know if this will help But Deborah was Judge over Israel for a time beginning in judges 4:4 and at the end of chapter 5 Israel had rest for 40 years. Naomi and Ruth come to mind.

Blessings
Robert

Not sure what you mean by "saved women" in the OT, but I expect those we'll see in the kingdom will include Eve, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, Leah, Miriam, Rahab, Ruth, Naomi, Esther, Hannah, just to name a few.

We cannot say who will be saved and whom will not be, but if you are looking for examples of women in the Bible who have experienced God's redeeming Grace and God's redemptive work in their lives, then study carefully the lives of Ruth, Anna, Sarah, Hannah, Mary Magdalene, Mary & Martha (sisters of Lazarus), The Samaritan Woman, Rahab, Lydia, Deborah, and of course, Mary, the mother of Jesus. And don't forget the Mother of All Living, Eve herself. These women were shown God's grace, God's redemptive works in their lives, God's favour, and many were known and saved for their faith alone, not for who they were. I'm sure there are others in the Bible as well.

Stabs in the Dark: The woman of Tekoa, Abigale, Abishag (she kept David warm, after all), Hagar, Tamar, Queen of Sheba, Isaiah's wife (the prophetess, mother of Immenu-El), maybe Gomer? Eh... that hot chick from Song of Songs, the Shulamite, the widow from Zarephath, Asenath (Joseph's Egyptian wife). How's that sound?

Operative is the word 'saved' in the way New Testament uses it. Maybe a term applicable to Old Testament saints would be 'justified by faith' (and it's God that sees the heart).

I've never heard the word "saved" be called "operative".

Ms cino:

What I meant was, the terminology we use often, such as 'born again' which is from the New Testament, didn't really apply in the same way in the Old Testament. For example, David could pray: "And take not thy holy Spirit from me", which is not a prayer for New Testament believers saved by grace, i.e., born again, and indwelt by the Spirit.

ok.. maybe the old testament couldnt say they were "born again", but in the new testament they could certainly say "let not thy spirit leave me". I agree that we are saved by grace but we still do have the spirit and david's prayer could still be relevant to us today, but i do understand the point you are trying to make.

Actually I would suggest that the dispensational context of David's request, 'Take not thy holy spirit from me', that is, prior to the coming the New Testament believer's experience of being indwelt of the Spirit, is relevant. Romans 8 says: 'If any man have not the spirit of Christ, he is none of his': i.e., all true believers have the Holy Spirit indwelling, unlike Old Testament saints.

Thanks for your comment, anyway.

farouk, what do you mean "unlike" old testament saints? Old testament saints did in fact have the spirit in God in them, the prophets and King David. Not sure what you mean.

cino:

Before Pentecost, when the Spirit came to abide with the church, Old Testament did not have the Holy Spirit indwelling in the New Testament sense; instead, the Holy Spirit came upon them at periods. Romans 8, as mentioned above, is clear that those who do not have the Holy Spirit are not Christ's, (verse 10). And Paul, referring to the experience of believers at Pentecost, says to the Corinthians: 'By one Spirit have ye all been baptised unto one body' (1 Corinthians 12:13).

ok farouk... i clearly see that you dont understand what i am talking about here, and i will just leave it, as i dont want to be accused of being rude or harassing to you. Seems we both have a different understanding of the interpretation of what the spirit of God means and who had it. Let's just leave it, but thanks for your comments anyway.
