Hello All! I'm starting a Macarthur commentary on Matthew in my Sunday School Class and I'm starting the introduction of the book. I'm having a hard time on deciding on how to teach the introduction. The intro is very self explanatory and I don't know how to add to it. Its basically talking about the author, the date, the purpose, and themes. I'm very short winded so if u have any suggestions on how I should approach this I will greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Try to tell them why it is important - why Matthew's "jewish" perspective is important - why his grouping of Jesus teaching is important - etc

MacArthur is a really good expositor, but He is usually preaching, not commentating. If you are intersted in another book - The New International Version Application Commentary volume on Matthew is very good and the author comes from a similar theological position. I thought Wilkins was more helpful in the NIVAC than MacArthur was - when I preached Matthew.

There is another book that I think has Matthew nailed down. The volume of the Tyndale Commentary that covers Matthew and Mark. Matthew is by David Turner.

I would suggest you read Dr Wallace's intro to Matthew on bible.org. He is always worth reading.

John
