I have attended 3-sessions (my 4th one is tonight) and I've got to tell you, I'm NOT impressed. The fallacies of syllogistic logic are absolutely glaring. Maslow is not treated fairly at all, I think he is totally misrepresented with a slant that says his [Maslow's] premises and conclusions are a "pernicious lie" which I don't accept. Maslow, as well as other people referenced in the segments (i.e., Carl Sagan, Jean-Jaques Rousseau) I've seen thus far are totally taken out of context. The arguments he presents would not stand up under cross examination with representation from the "other side" that he's bashing. I'm thinking of writing up a brief critique of the whole program when I finish and post "my position" on this matter for others to review and consider.

Thank you for your thoughts, Robert. I would be interested in reading your critique.

Our church is very focused on truthful biblical teaching, without avoiding any 'difficult' sections of Scripture, and we use The Truth Project for a Wednesday evening class. It is a solid overview of theology (where it intersects with worldview issues), and without providing a seminary background is still able to ingrain specific teaching in the fundamentals to be incredibly useful. Some Christians have never thought - even for a second - that their belief should be translated into an overall view of their interactions with the conscious, physical world; and to that end, this course is useful. The feedback we've gotten from participants has been overwhelmingly positive. As with any course materials provided by a third party, I recommend having a local facilitator that is qualified to teach in your denomination and local church.

I just finished a pilot group study of The Truth Project (TTP). The pilot group included our senior pastor and one of the elders, together with their wives. Week after week, the consensus assessment of the DVD presentation was overwhelmingly positive, each session being deemed better than the last. Our pastor has repeatedly thanked me for introducing our church to TTP and now wants all our adults (including high schoolers) to go through it. Before we even finished the series, he began facilitating another group. The elder who was in our group is also preparing to start another group. And my wife and I are looking forward to starting another group in a couple of weeks. We might even facilitate a second group on a different night of the week.

While it's easy to be an armchair critic, the reality is that most Christians are syncretistic in their thinking and don't have a truly biblical worldview, and TTP is a tremendous tool for helping us overcome that impairment. TTP may not be perfect, but it is excellent, and I recommend it enthusiastically.

I know that I am responding a year after the last response, but I wanted to add that my small group is doing The Truth Project for a second time. The first time was a few years ago. Even if we don't agree with everything that is said on the video, it's those disagreements (and agreements) that have opened the doors to some of our best small group discussions.
