I have a 12 year old nephew who is asking the usual questions that 12 or so year olds ask about death and the hereafter. Although I have some things in my library, I was curious to see what you all might have and use.

Thanks in advance.

Jim

Name of your church: in the car, one the way to work, lunch time, on the way home, in the dining room, in the bedroom, but current looking for a new church home
Is he/she just asking, or is it a crisis situation? That is, has he/she suffered a loss? Or is it just a question asked out of curiosity. Makes all the difference in the approach.

You could explain the importance of having a real relationship with Jesus. Finding out the level of awareness of right and wrong he/she has. Explaining the consequences for ones actions...

Most of all, again looking back, I never looked for any in depth answers to what death was, and what if any, were the consequences for leaving this life without Christ.

No crisis. Just asking - Typical 12 year old curiosity stuff.

I wouldn't make it too detailed...though if he's in need of a relationship with Christ I'd be sure to work it in there some way...

I would disagree with the OP, kids need to feel that they will be answered honestly when they ask questions. As long as his parents are ok with you talking to him about it then do. Dr. H. Norman Wright has written a book for young people that addresses this issue.

Tell your newphew the way you think about death and after that, ask what he think about it, or vice-versa, it should be the children that talk first depending on the situation, in fact, if you don't know what to say, i suggest you take the "Reborn" talk, were the person who is death leave his body to take on another live or roam in eternity in it own will *Which is my believing*, but if you wanna have the heaven and hell talk, it on your own will since it affect the thinking of your newphew.

If you ask me how i learn about death, i would say i never really got "the" talk about, sure, i talked alot about how death is and how my friend or family think about it, but i alway got in mind ever since my consciousness poped that we reborn and leave our corps as soul, therefore, i don't believe in heaven and hell as the "After life" but may be place that you can visit only when you're death or else...
