STRONGLY to read Is 44 to 48 for your preparation on the section covering Athens.
As you are reading note how often this pattern arise: Joseph's words "what you meant for evil God meant for good" and may be a reason why later Paul wrote this famous verse: Rom 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose" . This lesson just proves more and more the consistency of the OT to the NT and its reliability.
E.M. Bounds in his chapter on Prayer Incidents in the Life of our Lord has a thought that fits in here well with the sermon Paul gives in Athens: The learned and wise, following their learning and their wisdom, have always sadly and darkly missed God's thoughts and God's ways. I hope that you have had opportunity to view "Expelled..." the movie about evolution. Timothy Dawkins fits this description to a "T". He purports to be "wise" but he is really the "fool", the emperor wearing no clothes but thinks he is clothed. He is in some respects clothed, but it is with the clothes of futility. How many Timothy Dawkins do you have in your class? How many Epicureans and Stoic philosophers do you have? Study up on these two groups so you know about them and understand them.
