What's the difference between various LAB versions? Depending on if it is NIV or NLT do they have different notes, explanations, maps?

Or is it just
Either one of NLT / or NIV / or KJV translation + the same notes, explanations, maps for any translation?

Based on what I could see at http://www.lifeapplicationbible.com, I would say the notes are the same in all English versions of the Life Application Bible.

The "Life Application" Bibles are all identical (based on date of publication) except for translations (and thus also the differing translation's concordances in the back). However, if I was to recommend a study Bible, I would actually recommend the NLT Study Bible (NOT the NLT Life Application Bible) or (if you prefer the translation) the ESV Study Bible, both of which include far better study notes, introductions, etc. than any other study Bible. However, for helps in translations, and intensive study direction, I would actually recommend the NET Bible for its voluminous and helpful notes (which at a different level--textual--are even more helpful than either of the two I've just mentioned). But as far as study Bibles go...I would heartily recommend the NLT as my own preference for folks.

I see these contenders:

http://www.amazon.com/Life-Application- ... tudy+bible

http://www.amazon.com/Application-Study ... tudy+bible

One has more than 600, the other more than 300 reviews, leaving other versions far behind.

both of those are "personal size" (i.e., small & thick) -- i wouldn't care for that myself so ponder that aspect too

Baagii,
The number of reviewers shows popularity for purchasing and not necessarily the quality of the product. Though that number of reviews can allow one to get a much better idea of the quality.

Then how does it affect the reader when one buys their kindle version of the book on Amazon, then install kindle app on ipad, then read the kindle version book on ipad? Still to small on the screen?

2400 pages, 2.3 pounds is not going to be in laptop bag next to laptop. Nice thing I discovered is ipad means having a kindle reader.

Anyway that helps surely. I wondered what the personal size thing is. Considereing my sort of nomadic life though i'm in a city, i think the only practical way is to get digital version on kindle or ipad thus have the needed book anywhere I'm. Recently just a day ago I noticed I was using ipad even during tv commercials for searching stuff on naggiing questions. But I don't think I'll be leafing thru 2400 page book during a commercial, or bring it next to me everywhere, every room. Plus some dictionaries. Anyday my bag is stuffed with a laptop, its power adapter, mouse, cellphone power adapter ( the phone is in my pocket) , at least 2 books and a paper notebook.

Perhaps it is like for a child trying to learn guitar spends more time on the guitar because his parents bought also a small guitar effect which makes guitar playing fun due to delay or distortion effects and drum.

good choices for a study bible, would also add the Nasb version that has the NIV study bible notes in it!

If reformed, the reformation bible is a good onel as are the McArthur/ Ryrie if more Dispy!

Initially I read 2Cor from http://www.amazon.com/Living-Letters-Ap ... p_t_2_B9ZY and was impressed.

Then wondering what book is this I tried to find the whole version, ending up on following two. Hopefully they are the same:

Michael Marlowe provides a good review of the NLT itself (not the study notes).
http://www.bible-researcher.com/nlt2.html

Notwithstanding the inaccuracies he notes, I like the NLT (2nd edition) for devotional reading and as a secondary text for study.

Thank you for the suggestion. I was blown away by the review of Genesis 3:14-24 of NLT. I wished he continued that review till the end of NLT (for potential translators). But of course nobody will.

Anyway got the kindle version of NLT to be displayed on ipad.

I see many amplified bibles from different publishers:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss? ... fied+bible

Do they insert their own comments into their own version? i.e. KJV publisher adding (bracketed words) into KJV and calling it amplified KJV? And NIV or whoever else doing the same and call that as amplified this or that version?

The Amplified Bible is produced by The Lockman Foundation and is a very poor translation (IMO). It is all about English glosses and not really translating and it was not done by scholars of the Biblical languages. Those versions which include "Amplified" are simply offering it alongside of other translations like the KJV, NIV, etc. It is a parallel version and not an Amplified version of NIV, KJV, etc. So I personally wouldn't spend my money on such.

I agree. Rather than adding insight to the text, the Amplified Bible just muddies the waters with "possible" but not contextually reasonable interpretations.
