I like the idea of ditching cable TV and using Netflix, perhaps together with Hulu or something like that, for a lot less money. Although I've got a digital TV, it's not "smart" and I don't have any other devices capable of streaming media content. So my question is what would be the best way to proceed? Should I buy a Blu Ray DVD player that's Internet-ready (I don't need Blu Ray), should I get a Roku box, or is there a better solution?

If you have high speed internet, the Roku streaming player is an inexpensive way to bring internet options to your TV. In addition to Netflix and Hulu (paid channels), there are all kinds of free channels including all the major domestic and international news channels, religious channels (of all flavors), etc. I would cut our cable completely if not for the fact that my sons like to watch live sports (well, I do too on occasion, but I could live without it : ).

I found a terrific deal on a blu-ray player which I got for about the same price as a Roku box and I've been watching some of the old TV programs on Netflix, which is fun. Our young adopted granddaughter was with us the other day and she was riveted first by a documentary on the Giant Redwoods and then by "Leave it to Beaver." :D But what I like best about streaming media is Pandora. I love the way you can create your own customized "radio stations" and I've discovered some terrific artists that I didn't even know existed. Next step is to wire my blu-ray to my router at the other end of the house, which I'm told will provide optimal performance for video streaming. Fortunately, I found a great source for all my networking needs at Monoprice.com. Their prices are the best I've seen and their technical assistance has been great. I wasn't sure what all I needed, so I chatted online with one of their tech reps and he laid it all out for me. Just remember if you do that to copy and paste their comments into a Word doc before you finish the chat. Otherwise you'll lose it all when the conversation ends.

Yeah, I like Pandora, too. In the discussion on what's your favorite secular music, I listed the choices I made.

Well, two of my "stations" are Christian. Now is the time for Worship Radio and Marcos Witt Radio. Marcos Witt sings contemporary Christian in Spanish.
