Hi. I need ANY and ALL the information anyone can find about Lone Star Baptist College in Mesquite, TX.

My wife went to Haiti on a mission trip recently, and met a young man who is seriously considering attending there.

What little I've found so far suggests that it's a KJVONLYite, ultra-fundamental school "of some sort." I say it that way because it looks to be sponsored by a local IFB church (which may also be the campus), and I also have doubts as to whether there's any real accreditation.

Thanks in advance.

You are right that there is no mention of accreditation which would clearly suggest that it isn't accredited. I'm not sure how that works with offering a Bachelor of Science degree (according to their website). Also, it seems more like a church school than anything else. Interestingly enough there is ZERO affiliations listed (apart from the church) and no doctrinal statement or community statement of beliefs/practices. Rather bizarre for any school. I'm guessing you are right about them being Fundamentalist (in a less than positive manner -- which is what the F in IFB stands for anyways) and notably their application includes the requirement to report if you've been to the movie theatre and if so when was the last time, as well as dances (?). I would certainly question any such move to a school of this sort. Perhaps someone else knows something more about them. The IFB that I've known are bent heavily towards the Majority text and many are KJV-only...but they aren't inherently so.

Mesquite is a burb of Dallas and just 50 miles from me. This school is ultra-fundamental and NOT accredited. IMO they see "conversions" as notches on a gun and train agressive evangelism (won't take "no" for an answer). If memory serves, I believe they are of the Ultra-Dispensational bent and RADICALLY KJV-Only. I used to live on the edge of Mesquite and Garland and had a few "door-to-door" evangelism groups come to my neighbor-hood often from their host church. They tend to be long on passion and short on grace.

You might see if he'd be interested in Criswell College which is Downtown Dallas (my alma mater) and just a short 7 -10 miles from Mesquite. They have great undergrad and masters programs which transfer easily to other seminaries. They are not high cost and most of the professors are Pastors which keeps the training from being of the "ivory tower" sort. That being said, they don't slack on academics!

Also Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) Which is just a block or two from Criswell College. DTS is a graduate Seminary and is a very solid school. They are Dispensational in theology if that matters.

Just a short 20 miles West in Ft. Worth is the SBC Southwestern Theological Seminary They have both graduate and under-grad programs and a really good school of music.

Also in north Dallas is the Dallas Baptist University which is a pretty solid Christian university but a bit more for those not interested in "formal" ministry.

I believe Westminster Theological Seminary has a campus in Dallas through Park Cities Presbyterian Church which I've heard is very good.

I know that Criswell, DTS & Southwestern all have special scholarships for those coming from overseas which will be a great help for this young man!

Hope this helps! 8)

Thanks for all the help, everybody. I really appreciate it. I don't know if we'll be able to do it, but I think we REALLY need to have a talk with this young man and warn him about this place.
