Question for pastors - what is your experience with carrying a physical bible with you during visitations and witnessing? I'm contrasting this with the effectiveness of not having a bible at all and quoting scripture or using a non-physical version such as an electronic bible.

Personally I'm more used to the latter (it's more convenient for me, I think the Spirit is convicting me else-wise though) but I believe there is usefulness when we show a believer/non-believer where we quote from in a physical version. Do you find it useful to bring/use different bible translations depending on occasion? Right now I'm considering whether or not the NET beta study bible I have would be a good choice or should I buy a lighter version (bigger font, removing study notes, less thick).

I usually carry a compact NLT with me for visitations. I don't want to lug a full sized Bible or a study Bible around. I also like to have a translation that is easier for others to read if I have them read it. The NET would likely fill this role well. The only problem with the compact size is that the font is rather small.

Ah good point I actually was recently given a compact NLT bible but I noticed the font is really hard to read, here's the version that I have

Given the choice would you have preferred a bible with larger font or do you find it doesn't really matter?

I find that it only matters if it is a middle-aged or older person I'm visiting with who may not be able to read the smaller print. Otherwise I think the NLT (second edition...which is what all of the ones for the last number of years are) is a wonderful version to have someone read from who is unfamiliar with reading Scripture.

Interesting binding.

I would prefer a larger print just so I would not have to worry about someone not being able to read it, but you end up having to sacrifice some font-size to have a compact Bible that is more convenient to carry for visitation. Just my thoughts. Merry Christmas!

A good option is always a tablet type computer and the net bible app. Or even just the online text version. On a tablet you can increase the size of the font so that it is easy to be seen by anyone ;) I use my phone for that all the time :) But I DO keep a compact NET in my truck at all times. Great to read when you are stuck in traffic ;)

I usually carry a small bible with me when I visit a hospital or funeral occasions. But never when witnessing. I always have my bible on my phone if I need it. For those who do not attend church or go to church they know what that bible means,,,and it will at times allow me to pray with people I come into contact with in public places...when they see me enter the room and see the bible they usually know I am a pastor or with the church...
