I understand that the answers will be different based upon your ministry, your family, outside employment, etc. etc. But I would be very interested to hear from some of you what the average day and week is like for you. How much time for study, prayer, administration, etc.

Also, any suggestions would be great as well!

Thanks in advance and I look forward to reading what you have.

Mondays I tend to have meetings (usually a couple of them that might consume half the day). I spend the second half of Monday and most of Tuesday and the first half of Wednesday working on my Bible Study notes for Wednesday nights. Thursdays are mixed between more meetings, prepping for Sunday and trying to take the rest of the day off. Fridays are partially off and the second half of the day usually prepping for Sunday. Saturday mornings are usually for prepping for Sunday with Saturday night off. Sundays I preach 2-3 sermons every week. Sermon prep (study, prayer, writing) and presentation usually consume about 30 hours per week. I have usually done visitations sometime during Monday or Tuesday (typically only a couple of hours). Throughout all of these days (with the exception of time away from the church) I take care of business (phone calls, mail, bills, board issues, counseling) that probably takes up an average of 10-15 hours a week. Meetings usually only take up about 3-8 hours a week. This is essentially the time I take for the church I pastor. Not sure if this is quite the break-down you were looking for but if you are wondering about more specifics I would happily let you know. :D

Thanks for the response: I do not know what I was looking for other than what others days/weeks are like. I tend to want to have more time to study but I also do not feel like I am the most organized and productive as I could be with my time in the office. Just looking for suggestions, examples and ideas.

Mondays is my off day, no reading other than my devotional time, Tuesday is thinking about wed night and checking on the sick list, wed church, Thursday by midnight i try to have my sermon thought collected try and prepare at least one sermon outline by Thursday midnight, i also try and do physical visitation on Thursday afternoons, Friday is Sunday nights sermon completion, Friday night and Saturday is usually reserved for my family, i structure all my meeting on Sunday afternoons at the church make it simple because we all coming there any ways. I mobilize my deacon board to help me visits, make phone calls and connect with the church, i use also 90 minutes a day for e mails, phone calls, twitter, Facebook( which i only use for church announcements). This works for me for the last 16 and half yrs.

My father started a church which grew to a little over a hundred churches. He worked seven days a week. He often said to his pastors that if they slept more than 3-4 hours a night, they were sleeping too much. He would normally start preparing sermons at 1-2 am each morning. Prayer meetings started at 5 am. There were meetings most days and weddings (normally about three) most Saturdays. If he was ever home at night, meals would often be placed around Bibles and reference books as he briefly stopped preparing for the next meeting. Any holidays were a good time to catch up with his pastors or oversight committee.
