Do you do any just on a volunteer basis? I would have to ask the pastors I am thinking of to see if they would/could charge a fee.

I'm sorry, but I don't do work on a volunteer basis. The business isn't just me; I have a team of transcriptionists and a proofreader, and I need to be able to pay them for the work they do. Most of the pastors I know who use volunteer transcriptionists find the volunteers within their own congregation.

SonShine -- i think you have confused Ginger with Amanda

Ginger -- i could be wrong but it seems you have swooped in & stolen Amanda's "thunder" -- it's just the impression i've gotten from your posts -- hopefully i have misread your intent

I'm sorry! I definitely didn't mean to steal Amanda's thunder.

No matter Ginger...what we are looking for is a person who will not need the $$ as you do but a volunteer who has those skills and is willing to provide for bible.org those skills. We have several pastors locally here who have audio files and we are backlogged! If you know of someone...and Amanda if you are reading this and are still interested, please send me a note.

I don't know anyone who does volunteer work, but if I come across someone who does, I'll be happy to send them your direction.

Hi,
I have been researching ways to enter into the sermon transcription field.
Although I have for many years desired to be able to perform transcription from home and be my own boss (so to speak, after God), it was not until here recently that this door has been opened for me. I don't have any transcription experience, but I have worked from home for the past 5 years entering information into a computer system. And, while I do understand that this is far different from actual transcription, I have the desire to learn what I need to learn to get where I want to be.
I found the Christian Book of Style for documents as I was trying to find out the layout for sermons and that book, while helpful, still didn't quite answer my question which is what is the typical page layout for sermons.
Anyway, after entering sermon transcription into the search criteria I came across this forum and read your post and was wondering if you would consider being my mentor as I learn what is needed for this type of service.
For years, I tried to learn medical transcription and God would not let me do it, and now I understand why; the negative input that I would be subjected to on a daily basis--God is good all of the time, even when we don't know it!
I am more than willing to type for a while on a volunteer basis, to learn the ropes and ins and outs of the process until I get "up and running". I intend to purchase the Start Stop Universal Transcription System including the audio/dvd/video software within the next couple of weeks. If you know of a more superior system, please recommend. My intentions was to just transcribe my pastor's sermons which are on the internet and dvd until I became proficient, but any assistance that you may be able to provide is greatly appreciated.
Thank so much for taking the time to read and respond to this post.
Stay Blessed,
Deitra Brunner
