Quote:
Titus 2:3-5
3 Older women likewise are to exhibit behavior fitting for those who are holy, not slandering, not slaves to excessive drinking, but teaching what is good. 4 In this way they will train the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, fulfilling their duties at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the message of God may not be discredited. Welcome to the Women's Discussion Room.

Here is the place that we women can come to share our joys and sorrows, triumphs and failures, and the knowledge we have gained as we walk with the Lord. It is also the place where we safely ask questions concerning anything that pertains to our walk so that we may continue to grow.

It is my prayer that those of us who are older (at least in our faith) will be able to assist those of us who are a little younger and share our experiences. Although it is good to learn by making our own mistakes sometimes it is better to learn from someone who has "been there, done that".

With Bible.org's launch of it's new Women's Ministry Super Category I see an increase in the number of Women here at our forums. Please continue to keep this forum and Bible.org in your prayers as we reach the world for Christ.

If you are not already a member of our Women's Forums you will not be able to access the private area for more personal women's discussion. To participate in these forums you will need to join the "Women's Discussion Group" via your User Control Panel, simply select the group and click submit.

Please feel free to start a thread or join in the discussions that are already in place. If you have any suggestions, comments, or problems please do not hesitate to let me know. Feel free to either send me a pm or an e-mail. If you send an e-mail just put "Women's Forum" in the subject line this will prevent it from going to my bulk mail folder!

You may also contact our Women's Ministry Moderator "dcljoy" if you need any assistance.

Any gentlemen while we appreciate the fact that you want to help when reading items in this public area of the garden we would like to request that you please stay on the path and out of the flowers and vegetables. If you have something to add that you think would be beneficial please send a note to Dinah (dcljoy) and she'll think about it. Thanks for your understanding.

I'm real partial to Joanna. In Lk 8:3 and 24:10, she is mentioned as one of the women who "helped" Jesus and was with the others at the empty tomb. She is described as the wife of King Herod's (Antipas'?) steward so she was probably a wealthy woman. What exciting stories she must have been able to tell!!

I found an "I". It is Iscah, she is a Abraham's younger brother Haran's daughter and sister of Lot and Milcah. Gen 11:29.

Nothing else is mentioned about her...so back to the J's.

Jemima ... then Keziah and Keren-Happuch

After his trials, Job named his daughters.
Job 42:14 14 The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-Happuch. Context (NET)

Another translation has
He named the first daughter Dove, the second, Cinnamon, and the third, Darkeyes. (MSG ©biblegateway)
So I guess Jemima means "dove", Keziah "cinnamonm" and Keren-Happuch means "dark eyes".

Leah ..... I always felt sorry for Leah .... sibling rivalry and disfunctional families were alive and well even in ancient times

yet it was from Leah and not Rachel that the Messiah came.

Lydia

Paul's first convert in Europe, who became known for her faith and for her hospitality. A gentile convert to Judaism and then to Christianity, a businesswoman who was probably well to do (as purple dye was an expensive item).

I admire her for her discipline - going to pray at the river as a practise ... for her willing accpetance of the gospel message and taking risks to assist Paulandhis party when they were in trouble ... and for the consistent Christian life she seems to have followed after that.

Acts 16:11-15 11 We put out to sea from Troas and sailed a straight course to Samothrace, the next day to Neapolis, 12 and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of that district of Macedonia, a Roman colony. We stayed in this city for some days. 13 On the Sabbath day we went outside the city gate to the side of the river, where we thought there would be a place of prayer, and we sat down and began to speak to the women who had assembled there. 14 A woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, a God-fearing woman, listened to us. The Lord opened her heart to respond to what Paul was saying. 15 After she and her household were baptized, she urged us, “If you consider me to be a believer in the Lord, come and stay in my house.” And she persuaded us. Context (NET)

Acts 16:40 40 When they came out of the prison, they entered Lydia’s house, and when they saw the brothers, they encouraged them and then departed. Context (NET)

I found LO-RUHAMAH which sounds very lovely to me. But it means "without love". Isaiah was commanded to name his daughter this to be a picture of Israel's forfeiting of God's love by their worshipping of *other gods*.

Gee....don't ya just wonder how she felt having that name? and being a symbol. Hopefully she had a nickname.

... and Mary, and Mary.

Are there 3? Mary the mother of our Lord, Mary Magdalene, and another? I will go look it up and edit if I find the appropriate verses.

Sorry Jenn - I took an even easier way!

Looked up my Bible Dictionary:

Mary, the mother of our Lord ( Matthew2; Luke1; Acts 1 etc)

Mary the sister of Martha (Luke 10; John 11 etc)

Mary Magdalene (Luke 8;, Matthew 28; Mark 16; John 20 etc)

Mary the mother of James/ "the other Mary"/ Mary of Clopas (Matthew 27; Mark 15; John 19)

Mary the mother of Mark (Acts 12)

Mary greeted by Paul (Romans 16)

WOW!
