Asleep in the Garden

As a child I was always dissapointed, if not disgusted, that the Disciples fell asleep in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Now,  I know that an adult man with a full stomach, after a long day, regardless of any wine that may have been consumed, will naturally fall asleep quite easily.  And if that man is sitting in a quiet garden in the dark - sleep will come quickly.

Yes, there was a crisis and they could not understand it.  The events of the next few days were beyond human imagination - and so they fell asleep.   They were weak human beings.  Come to think of it, so am I.   Since I have grown older - not old, but older - I have become more aware of both my mortality and human frailty.  I too have sometimes fallen asleep in the garden.

So be encouraged!  Iif your physical weaknesses have made themselves known, God will still use you greatly when you are awake.  One day, both you and I will have a greater capacity to serve - when we are like Him.

In Our Savior's Name, John

like you John .... when I was young I thought I would not fall asleep .... now I am not so sure,  as I find myself failing my Lord in a variety of ways far too often for me to be anything other than deeply, deeply, thankful for God's unending grace and mercy towards a sinner like me.

God is so good!
