The Bible NETwork Blog is a place where the staff of our bible.org  forums can open their hearts and share what is on their minds,  in matters of faith, life and generally whatever happens to strike them at the moment.

We are a diverse group which differs in many ways, ways that are not that important. We also have important things in common. One important thing we have in common is our love for Jesus and for you. We hope when you visit that you are blessed by the important things and sometimes amused by the unimportant. May God grant us all the wisdom to recognize which is which.

Lost in Translation 4: Words That Matter? Luke 23:34a

As Jesus was crucified he uttered those memorable words to shake the very foundation of all those powers which opposed him: "Father, forgive them, because they don't know what they are doing."  Or did he?

Lost in Translation 3c: Why Aren't These Verses In My Bible? Deuteronomy 32:8

The Song of Moses offers an insight into what many believe to be one of the earliest literary pieces of the Old Testament. It also offers interesting tidbits in particular because of the finds of the Dead Sea Scrolls and their relation to the LXX in contrast to the text as it has been preserved in the Masoretic text as the “original” Song of Moses. There are actually far too many textual issues to deal with in this extensive “song” and so only the following verse will be analyzed (vs.8):

Lost in Translation 3a: Why Aren't These Verses In My Bible? 1 John 5:7-8

I remember a youth pastor asking my youth group once to try to find verses in the Bible that would support the doctrine of the Trinity...and I remember discovering to my shock and dismay that the verses that I remembered from my KJV were not to be found in my NIV in 1 John 5:7-8 that would seem to clearly point to the Trinity (of course there are MANY other passages that support this doctrine, but this was one of those that came to my mind which should have been an "easy" one in support of the doctrine...so much for that...or was it).

Lost in Translation 2: Adding and Taking Away From Scripture

What does it mean when the Scriptures say, “I testify to the one who hears the words of the prophecy contained in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.” (Rev.

Lost in Translation 1: First Things First

I thought I might do a series of blog posts over the next few months (?) concerning translation issues.  I know this is one of those areas that garners a lot of heat from many folks and tends to become dogmatic without being considerate of the many details involved.  So I thought I'd just blog (somewhat randomly) about various issues that have come up in the course of my own spiritual journey and pastoral ministry.

The Blessing of Work/Occupation/Profession/Trade/Craft: A male viewpoint

This one's been percolating for almost two years now.

I am not condoning, nor advocating for the subjugation of women and children in anyway. I am also well aware some may view this as paternalism. Again, it's not.

When the idea for this first appears, the unemployement rate was just beginning to skyrocket, banks and brokerage firms were failing, businesses closing down, and houses were being foreclosed on at a growing rate.

Is there time to twitter, blog and update my profile?

Is there time to twitter, blog and update my profile?

Noticing how often I have taken the time to "blog" in the last year (!) - I assume because I was too busy or had nothing pressing that I thought to share here - I have  been wondering: "Where do they get the time?" That is, all of the many who Twitter and update their Facebook profiles constantly and blog daily. Of course, it is because "they" make time to do these things, while I find other things more enticing - like sleep, or food, or Sudoku or a book.

2012 - The End of the Mayan Calendar

Ok, so I never got back to finish my previous blog entry. And now, it's been so long, I can't remember where I was headed with it.

onward, upward, to infinity and beyond!

I watched a interesting documentary this evening. The title isn't important.

What this dvd was able to accomplish was just this, every crackpot, conspiracy theory, and evolutionary idea were put together, with a smattering of new age jargon, quoting "experts and scholars" are thrown together and become a coherent whole.
